    Default What does ozonic mean?

I have seen perfumes described as ozonic, or having ozonic notes. I do not know what this means and I am not sure I ever smelled that kind of note.

Is it like chlorine? Something vaguely volatile and fresh but not green? Like a mineral note but airy?

    Thanks

I wouldn't say ozone smells like chlorine, but they do share that strong initial "bite" as it were, similar (but not nearly as strong) to ammonia.

I may be wrong on this, but I always thought ozone gives that distinct "freshness" to the air after heavy rain.

Never considered a chlorinated note so far, but it is actually possible for an ozonic scent to smell like this, as this particular watery-airy freshness can also display a certain almost pungent, sharp suggestion of nearly "chemical cleanliness" (in turn, reminding of certain detergents and other cleansing products, not the most natural/organic soaps etc.).

A crisp, cool-airy note, like the smell of electrically-charged atmosphere just before the first raindrops.

Good descriptions above. They are the notes that plague much modern "sporty" (and not only) male perfumery, and that have the effect of making such perfumes difficult to distinguish from industrial floor cleaners. Sometimes in conjunction with that other plague of male perfumery, marine, which is inspired by the smell of a beach with dead sea creatures.

    Good question and interesting answers!

Examples of "Ozonic" fragrances. There are many, it was the Fragrance type of the 90's. New West for her; l'Eau d'Issey, Aqua de Gio, are three good examples.
