Antaeus. Because I like these type of 80ies fragrances.

    Égoïste---Antaeus---Pour Monseiur (Not Concentrée)--------------------------------------------------------------------------------yaaaaawn------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------some time later----------------------------"Platinum" "Égoïste"...........

Égoïste is IMO the greatest fragrance ever, I doubt I will ever see it dropped from no. 1 on my list.

Antaeus is amazing, a great, butch leather, with a ton of castoreum and with some classic 80's power and swagger.

Pour Monsieur is so elegant and refreshing, and is a true classic.

Platinum Égoïste is not Platinum anything, and it is certainly not worthy of the Égoïste name. A shrill and metallic fresh/spicy/aromatic fougére that does not stand out from others in the genre in any positive way.

Difficult choice, because I like all three of them, although in different ways and to different extents.

And although either/any of these is a great fragrance in its own right (have yet to know any Chanel fragrance, feminine, masculine or unisex, currently available or discontinued, designer or designer exclusive, I do not like), my personal ranking would roughly be Antaeus and Pour Monsieur, both top rated, closely followed by Egoiste and Egoiste Platinum ranking third.

Out of these three, Antaeus remains an all time personal favorite-not just among Chanel fragrances, since it manages to craft and to achieve just the right balance between leather, some citrus opening, some incense-smoke, some tobacco-even including everything, right down to "green" tobacco with mossy-fougere hints, all this and more interpreted and rendered in a distinctive powerhouse style, while Pour Monsieur impresses trough its classic chypre style, withe the occasional soapy and powdery hints and yet amounting to sheer genius of versatility and timeless class, under its deceptively understated simplicity.

I've changed my mind umpteen times about Chanel men's scents. Right now, I am on a high with Pour Monsieur.

I love it because it's how men once used to smell. It's a classic in that it became an oakmoss benchmark for me after needing a sort of 'reference' to make sure what I am smelling in other scents is actually oakmoss. Granted, it's a citrus top, chypre bottom fragrance and might not be very adventurous, but it does the job, it does well and it works year-round.

I'm somewhere in between, I get about 2 hours of good projection (though it seemed the last bottle I tested in an airport was heavy on the cardamom, which didn't appreciate so much) then more of a skin scent for several more.
I still rate Egoiste as number one of the four mentioned, though I greatly respect Antaeus and Pour Homme.

Sounds like you tested the Concentrée, and not the original Pour Monsieur, as the Concentrée is quite heavy on the cardamom, whereas I have a hard time finding it in the original.

If you have current formulation, are you sure you're smelling oakmoss?

Why wouldn't he be? The new stuff still contains oakmoss, it is only restricted, not banned. My bottle from a few years ago contains oakmoss and, I believe, also treemoss, both were listed on the box iirc.

Of course. It's listed as the last ingredient on the bottle.

Yeah, I was partly kidding. I figured there was probably some oakmoss in there.
But Chanel pour Monsieur is not what I would consider an oakmoss reference type of fragrance, even in its earlier formulations. Maybe that's a minority opinion?

In any event, I didn't mean to muddy up the thread.

Of the fragrances listed, my choices are Antaeus and Egoiste. The former because, as Norstrøm said, it's "a butch leather, with a ton of castoreum". As for Egoiste, I just think it smells great. A sort of cacophony of notes that somehow works.

They're all great. I have started to see where people are coming from who don't like Platinum Egoiste, but I like all four.

Probably the chronological order is also the order from best to worst.

Agree that they're all great. Egoiste and Antaeus lead the pack for me among the four.

Egoiste is the best, follow by Pour Monsieur and Antaeus.

Platinum Egoiste is not bad at all, but it pales completely compared to the fantastic masterpiece that is Egoiste.

If you want a great citrus from Chanel, go for Pour Monsieur or Allure Edition Blanche.

    103. Platinum Egoiste

Antaeus, Egoiste are very distinctive fragrances. Egoiste is classy, Antaeus is edgy. I like these two more than Chanel pour Monsieur, which is gorgeous but a little thin for my tastes.

Platinum Egoiste smells very unremarkable to me.

I'm sure it was the original (though I really like the concentrée) and I had never noticed it previously in CPM, which is why I was wondering if the latest bottles are different.
