I was at Sephora and noticed they sell the HdP Discovery Set. For $16, it's a good deal and I'm tempted, especially since my 1725 sample is almost gone and I haven't been able to decide if it's bottle worthy for me yet. I may need another sample first. I wish more houses sold discovery sampler sets!

What are your favorites from HdP?
    My favourites:

Noir Patchouli - my favourite take on dirty patch, a fantastic frag imo (together with Jovoy Psychedelique)
Petroleum - like its name says, it's a great impression of oil made with medicinal oud
Ambrarem - simply stunning. More of an animalic oud frag than amber frag imo. If I had to own just one, it would be the one. Masterpiece

Also great, but not not my favorite:

1740 - great immortelle/leather fragrance. Worth its price, but very challenging to pull off socially. A 15ml spray may do it for me though (and last me a life).
Fidelis - a rasperry and oud fragrance that leans a bit too feminine for my tastes (FM The Moon is a higher -, more masculine version of this one - oh look... it's the same perfumer!)
    Irreverent - great westernized oud
Tubereuse Animale - Great, but not unique, as there are several other great masculine tuberose frag (Rogue Flos Mortis, ELdO Vierges et Toreros, Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle). That said, I'm looking forward to sample the new 7753 (tuberose and vetiver).
Ambre 114 - great amber, but leans a bit feminine, and not very unique, even if very well blended. I much prefer Goutal's or L'Artisan's take amber.
This is not a blue bottle 1.3 - a nice take on acquatic/fresh rose, but again, not unique (Cartier Declaration d'Un Soir, ELdO Hermann)

    Not fb in my book:

1725 - yes, it's a nice modern fougere. But yes, it's just nice, nothing to loose sleep about, honestly I don't understand the hype.
1899 - cinnamon centered fragrance, that falls a bit flat imo. In that category, it's a good one, but I think that Costume National Homme may be a better choice, a bit younger smelling, while 1899 is more well behaved (that said, I hate cinnamon, so that doesn't help giving an objective opinion).
1969 - feminine fruity frag, hard pass

I have the old 10-samples set and less than half of the frags listed above are in it. I suggest you go for their new "Ultimate" 16-samples set for a more comprehensive view.
Otherwise, I suggest the 8-sample "Library set", and to simply skip the "blue bottle" discovery set.

In any cases, the Tubereuse collection and the Edition Rare collection (Petroleum, Ambrarem, Rosam, Fidelis, Veni, Vedi, Vici) will not be available in any sampler kit.
Nor will the Opera collection be, but you don't care as this is a feminine collection.

    Current order:

    1) Patchouli Noir
    2) 1876
    3) 1725
    4) 1826
    5) Ambre 114

I didn't know about Petroleum or Ambrarem - will give a try.

One of my first niche houses. Here are some I've purchased...
1899 - was really into this one as a niche version of Spice Bomb (more like extreme)
    1725 - powdery fougere
1969 - probably does lean feminine, but love the peach note
    Ambre 114 - decent amber

    Want 1740 and Noir Patchouli

1740 - Sinfully decadent, lucky to own 3 bottles of the original ornate balloon cap version. New version uses cheap designer woody ambers.
Petroleum - This is on the weird side. Oily, smoky and crude with a blue metallic shimmer.
Ambrarem - Clash of ozone like metallic note and a vanilla/amber oriental.

Love 1725 and 1740, for very different reasons. The former is a great everyday wear for Fall/Winter - a warm fougere with anise and licorice to make it interesting and less “stereotypical manly man” than the typical fougere. The latter is an “occasion” fragrance, and one of the best there is, although sadly I haven’t tried the vintage formulation. I get immortelle, leather and amber.

I haven’t been as enamoured with the others I’ve tried. Ambre 114 is nice but dull; Noir Patchouli is quite stuffy/musty and not to my taste; 1899 is an OK spicy masculine, nothing exciting; 1828 is a bland citrusy-spicy meh; 1969 is an interesting peachy fruitchouli incense, but not to my taste.

I’d like to try the more exotic lines (Ambrarem, Fidelis, Prolixe etc) but haven’t got my nose on them yet.

Noir Patchouli and 1740 are top notch imo. I also own 1899 and Fidelis and like them a lot.

1725 I find boring and too sweetish, Ambre 114 is very nice with its thyme note, Jules Verne is kinda nice, but not my style.

    Noir Patchouli
    Ambre 114

I disagree here, this is the best of this type that I have tried.

MDCI Invasion Barbare is fantastic, but feels a bit cold and stern to me. 1725 is a warmer, more relaxed and easier wear.

Which ones would you say do it better? Just asking because I love this 'genre' and may sample your recommendations if I haven't already.

    Stunning:
    Ambrarem
    Noir Patchouli
1740 (for the art, but hardly wearable imo)

    Great:
    Petroleum
    Irreverent
    Prolixe

    Good:
    Ambre 114
    Fidelis
This is not a blue bottle 1.3
    Tubereuse 3 Animale

    Ok:
    1899
    1725
This is not a blue bottle (original)

I'm glad this thread was resurrected. I didn't know about a few of these perfumes, and I love this house. I'm going to try Abrarem, Petroleum, Irreverent, and Prolixe. Thanks for the tips.

1899 and 1725 are brilliant in their own ways
    ambre 119 was ok
1740 was interesting on strip, but unwearable for me on skin

I'd add 1725 to the list.

A couple others that I liked: Ambre 114 and Noir Patchouli.
