My favourites:
Noir Patchouli - my favourite take on dirty patch, a fantastic frag imo (together with Jovoy Psychedelique)
Petroleum - like its name says, it's a great impression of oil made with medicinal oud
Ambrarem - simply stunning. More of an animalic oud frag than amber frag imo. If I had to own just one, it would be the one. Masterpiece
Also great, but not not my favorite:
1740 - great immortelle/leather fragrance. Worth its price, but very challenging to pull off socially. A 15ml spray may do it for me though (and last me a life).
Fidelis - a rasperry and oud fragrance that leans a bit too feminine for my tastes (FM The Moon is a higher -, more masculine version of this one - oh look... it's the same perfumer!)
Irreverent - great westernized oud
Tubereuse Animale - Great, but not unique, as there are several other great masculine tuberose frag (Rogue Flos Mortis, ELdO Vierges et Toreros, Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle). That said, I'm looking forward to sample the new 7753 (tuberose and vetiver).
Ambre 114 - great amber, but leans a bit feminine, and not very unique, even if very well blended. I much prefer Goutal's or L'Artisan's take amber.
This is not a blue bottle 1.3 - a nice take on acquatic/fresh rose, but again, not unique (Cartier Declaration d'Un Soir, ELdO Hermann)
Not fb in my book:
1725 - yes, it's a nice modern fougere. But yes, it's just nice, nothing to loose sleep about, honestly I don't understand the hype.
1899 - cinnamon centered fragrance, that falls a bit flat imo. In that category, it's a good one, but I think that Costume National Homme may be a better choice, a bit younger smelling, while 1899 is more well behaved (that said, I hate cinnamon, so that doesn't help giving an objective opinion).
1969 - feminine fruity frag, hard pass
I have the old 10-samples set and less than half of the frags listed above are in it. I suggest you go for their new "Ultimate" 16-samples set for a more comprehensive view.
Otherwise, I suggest the 8-sample "Library set", and to simply skip the "blue bottle" discovery set.
In any cases, the Tubereuse collection and the Edition Rare collection (Petroleum, Ambrarem, Rosam, Fidelis, Veni, Vedi, Vici) will not be available in any sampler kit.
Nor will the Opera collection be, but you don't care as this is a feminine collection.
