Default Work scent - Italian Cypress vs Grey Vetiver?

Hello basenoters. Title says is all, which do you think would make a better choice of fragrance for work? I have sampled Both and would like something classy and inoffensive. I like a scent to be relatively exclusive (not everyone should be wearing it). Can IC be used outside the workplace in your opinion? Cheers all.

Although not gung-ho on either, if I had to choose, I'd pick the latter.

Cheers for the reply hednic. Any others you think are good to consider? Already own Parfums de Marly Herod and Amouage reflection man, so something different from those two would be good.

At one point I owned both and although GV gets a lot of love here for work, I preferred IC. No real reason except I really felt it exuded a business setting. GV ended up souring on me and I tired of it easily while wearing it....EDT

Think the EDP version might change that?

You should probably avoid Tom Ford all together then.

I should've been clearer, not Aqua Di Gio level worn (great scent, not trying to bash it at all).

I have IC and GV (EDP) and think they'd be equally suitable for an office workplace.

I've owned both. Grey Vetiver EDP is a better work scent, as it is primarily a clean, fresh scent. The EDT of GV is a bit flat and weak.

IC is awesome, but less work place friendly. Just my two scents.

IC is far more better than GV as a scent. But for office use i would choose GV, it is less offensive.

Both would be good. But it seems to me that vetiver in general are very good for work, fresh, but not sporty, and somewhat elegant.
More expensive vetivers (like Chanel Sycomore) would be even better in this sense.

    Italian Cypress by far!

I think IC is better in my opinion.

GV is also very good in EDP and I know a co worker who wore it at my old job. Its nice and good performing, great office scent. I think IC is more powerful and just has better character to me.

As far as longevity I'd say they are about the same probably. They will get you through a work day. Price wise GV is obviously better though, so there is that.

I would have no problem wearing GV.

    Blasphemy!

I enjoy the EDT much more than the EDP, and while it IS a bit lighter, it's also fresher, and didn't choke me out like the EDP tends to do. I found the EDP a bit too "perfumey", and it smelled a little like Aqua Net aerosol hair spray. Or something.

Likewise not gung-ho on either and like some others here I likewise would be not merely bored but irritated if I had to wear GV that frequently. Though I can understand a clean vetiver as an excellent choice of office scent, there are other good options without GV's uber-synthy hesperidics. Given your criterian regarding relative exclusivity, also bear in mind that although GV might not be all that common, the overall screechy synthy hesperidic vibe is incredibly dominant across a huge range of modern fragrances -- even more so in the lower range of quality.

I'm wearing GV EDP today. It's hot here and I wear a suit for work. Perfect performance - lasts all day, minimum projection but the citrus kicks back up if/when my body temp rises and refreshes/energizes.

I don't own a more crowd pleasing/non-intrusive/classy/better performing scent for pairing with a suit at work.

Didn't expect quite expect the high turnout of responses. Thanks for all the input so far. Seems pretty close with GV in front by a hair. I'll have to head to the stores today and try them side by side. Is IC as versatile as GV, or does it have formal written all over it?

Tf gv edp..... I love it so much. Smells so good to me It's no doubt the best work scent in my collection but it's projection, sillage and longevity are 10/10 no joke. Most of my "work scents" barely get any love from me on the weekend but Grey Vetiver dose because I love it that much.

Nordstrom in my town made me little four ml samples of each. IC still sits mostly unworn. While nicely made, I find it a bit Bro-ish for my tastes. Though it doesn't smell similar to, say, original Polo, I get that sort of vibe. GV edp, however, on my skin has a safe, clean-dirty vetiver quality, and I don't find the citrus too over-the-top, myself. It has staying power, and never comes on too strong, unlike IC. I think GV edp is very wearable in a variety of settings, not just professional or suited.

Haven't tried them side by side just yet, but should do tomorrow. Already tested them separately and quite enjoyed TF GV. Can't say I remember IC all too much. It would seem that IC isn't as versatile, a little more in your face (louder?). Will have to try it out again. Appreciate all the input so far.

My pick would be GV EDP.
I would look into French Lover/Bois d'Orage by F. Malle as well.
I have a feeling you might like it. It's higher quality and much better than GV and IC. IMO.

I will admit GV is growing on me. Still prefer IC but I could see the appeal. I may get another sample of it.

For work, of the two, I would go for Grey Vetiver, although I personally feel a more citrus vetiver would be better (less 'crisp') - pick any one from the hundreds out there...

Italian Cypruss is Mrs JTB's favourite 'Date Night' scent, so I won't be wearing that one for work any time soon!

Monsieur Balmain, anyone? The vetiver in that mixed with the ginger and sandalwood is juuust right, and how the citrus stays for hours is amazing! Safe, fun, tasty...and 25 bucks at the discounters.
