Default Which fragrance should I wear to a job interview?

this is the first time i have a fragrance collection at my disposal for a job interview, and i'm not entirely sure what to wear. i want to smell good, but at the same time i don't want it to be distracting (four people will be interviewing me at once), and i don't want to seem vain or like i'm more concerned with picking up ladies than i am with focusing on this interview.

a bit of background information: i'm in my early 30's, and this is an IT-related job at a very popular and well-liked company. i'll be dressing business casual (dress pants, button up shirt). the temperature will probably be in the 70's on the day of the interview.

out of the fragrances listed below, which do you think would be the best one to wear? i've narrowed it down to these warm weather fragrances in my collection:

    Dior Sauvage
    Green Irish Tweed
    Bleu De Chanel
    Aventus
    Montblanc Individuel

Welcome to you RandomPersonGuy! Hope you enjoy your time here at Basenotes! To be perfectly candid, my feeling is that it is better not to wear fragrance at a job interview.

If you must wear a fragrance, which I wouldn't, and you don't own Grey Vetiver I'd do a single shot of GIT.

I'd go with BdC, or whichever makes you feel the most confident. I agree to keep the number of sprays down with what ever you choose.

All good choices (maybe hold off on the Aventus). I wore a couple sprays of Creed Vetiver Geranium to my last interview - got the job. No guarantees, but go easy on the sprays whatever you wear.

Agree with the advice above-- no fragrance at all or one shot of Bleu or GIT.

Especially in IT, I'd probably avoid fragrance. Typically the culture of IT folks where I work is "don't offend."
My only regrets in life are the people I haven't stood up for,
and the perfumes I've thrown away.

Exactly! It'll look like a manipulative trick. I remember a slick-hared marketing guy was trying to sell broadband beyond what we needed at the company and he was overloaded with fragrance that it was off-putting. Sell your skills and wear the scent for yourself.

    Exactly.

What if your fragrance reminds the interviewer of someone that he/she doesn't care for? Scent and association are a pretty powerful tandem...

Wear no fragrance for a job interview.

The easiest way to get a job is to show them you work hard, you're talented, and you won't rock the boat.

    Good luck!

I've worn fragrance to every job interview I've had, and I've never had any issues being offered the job. In fact around 75% of the people that have interviewed me have been women and around 50% of them had made a comment that I smelled nice. From your list I'd probably go 3 sprays of BDC an hour before the interview.

I have a buddy who is a senior president at a well-known tech company in Southern California and he hires graduates from such universities as Carnegie Mellon and MIT, and fragrance he said has never been an issue. Unless, you are projecting to the point where it's encroaching upon other people's boundaries. I'd go with nothing or just go very light to play it safe. Good luck with the interview. Break a leg!

I had to interview a guy today... and he came in wrapped up in a blanket of fragrance that would probably make the people in the oversprayer thread proud. Dude had at least 10 sprays of Fierce (yes, I asked) and left the other people in the room gasping for air.

My advice, wear very little if you do. Just have the appearance of being clean, professional and let your skills do the work for you. I'd hate to see a qualified person being overlooked because of their (our shared) hobby.

I hire and interview people literally all of the time and it doesn't bother me, but I may be a tad biased! I always go with one or two sprays of something lighter if I have an interview. I agree with the "go VERY easy" motto as a fragrance helps me feel "put together" completely, but if you're feeling self conscious about it, I'd skip it.

Plus 1 it's a job interview. Why take a chance on offending or pissing anyone off.

Fragrance as an interviewee is a distraction.

When I'm the interviewer, I'm only allowed to smell (good).

I would wear one spray of GIT out of your list... I don't think there is anything wrong with wearing a super light application of any fragrance for an interview.

Nothing wrong with fragrance for a job interview in my opinion. One GIT under the shirt. You'll smell it and feel confident, but the interviewers would have to get real close to smell it.
