Default Oud For Greatness - Initio?

Have any of our European Basenoters tried this latest release yet? If so thoughts - both positive and negative appreciated.

Applied sample at 8am, bought it before noon. Merry Christmas to me! But given the price point, I'll forever refer to it as Oud for Poverty.

It is being marketed quite a lot in where I live – so I was given a piece of paper with this spritzed on while walking by in the mall. I smelled it and liked it, it has that strange smoky feel, it reminds me of church, no, not church, it's more like secret rites and rituals, very mysterious, very overpowering and calming at the same time. So I smelled it, thought "this is nice", put it into my coat pocket and forgot it when I came home.
Next day I was wondering, why my gloves, my sleeves and probably all of me are smelling like a male perfume. This is not a bad thing, because the smell is really good, but WHY?
When I came home again I thought that maybe it's that little paper's fault, so I took it out and put it on my coffee table at home to be able to sniff it again when I want to. And yes, I come quite often to sniff it again, because the smell is really good, mysterious and somehow calming to me.
Several days passed, my right glove still has a slight hint of oud and incence and my whole living room has a light smell of Oud for Greatness. All because of that one little paper!
Really, it's probably the longest lasting and the biggest sillage monster of a perfume I have ever come across (okay, I haven't tried many, but still). I'm almost curious to actually try this on my hand, but I'm not sure if I want to scare off everyone who comes into contact with me. Though, honestly, I'm probably more scared of actually loving this smell not only as a home scent, but on me, because Oud for Greatness is quite a few bits over a price point that is comfortable for me. I just hope this fragrance becomes popular, because I want to smell it more often.

    OK just blind-bought FB

Let's face it, Boys, there is a loud. Ass. Fougere Arms Race going on, with Tom Ford and his Fougeres 'Argent and Platine, and his Bro du Jour or whatnot. There's your Invasion Barbare and now your Oud For Greatness, which has a space-age Lavender vibe with nary a trace of that rascal OUD. Exquisite bottle, but überBroseph.

Wow, thanks for that great post, ClockworkAlice! Your story almost makes me want to go out and buy this for that reason alone!

The listed notes (lavender, saffron, nutmeg, oud, patchouli, musk) all sound right up my alley --- and it also sounds good for for what it apparently does NOT contain (things like oakmoss, bergamot, galbanum and violet leaf, the 'dark green stinks' that I just can't abide). Although isn't oud generally considered more of a base note? (Maybe they were just afraid of not listing any heart notes?)

Edit: Curious, I can't find Oud for Greatness listed on Fragrantica anywhere.

I have had it for 2 weeks now and I love it!! Very rarely do I wear a frag twice in a row but this is now 4 days running. Great winter Frag with our , saffron and beautiful smoky incense smell to my nose.

Quite a few reviews on facebook liken this to Baccarat Rouge 540. Do you guys get that resemblance?

I thought it had a very close vibe to it when I first tried it as that was my first thought but it is softer and not as cloying. Then I tried them side by side and it is a much larger difference then I thought. As an FYI I own both

There is a raspberry Jolly Rancher note in both, but BR540 goes way overboard with it.

Can anyone suggest where I might be able to get a sample of Oud for Greatness? Their website says "Samples currently out of stock", and it is doubtful that I am going to find this in any local store here in Alaska. I am utterly intrigued with this one, though!

Update: I found samples of this available through Alpha Fragrances: https://alpha-fragrances.com/collect...13961882042431

But boy, $25 US for a 2ml sample! Pretty pricey (but then, so is the 90ml bottle at $350).

Just got a sample of this for free with purchase at luckyscent. Tried it today and I can see a BR 540 comparison. I don’t find too much Oud in it, but that may be a good thing for some people. Luckyscent describes it as dark, Oud, and spicy....but I get more of the patchouli and mild saffron. Just an OK fragrance imo.

I would go so far as to say there is NO oud in it. And it is anything but dark. It's nice, though -- got my first compliment on it today. Looking forward to reading what people with more-educated noses think about it. Weird that there is no entry for it on either BN nor Fragrantica, for a parfum that has been out for like two months now.

Well, I finally received my sample of Oud For Greatness, and in light of the reviews that I've read for this one, I must admit that I am rather puzzled. After three hours of a light spray on my arm, I am not getting anything even remotely smoky, incense-y or oud-like here at all.

What I AM getting is a strong, linear, one-dimensional, medicinal/clinical note that reminds me (to an unsettling degree) of the combined smells one commonly encounters while sitting in a dentist's chair, or perhaps while visiting the wards in a hospital! I'm left wondering if I even received the proper sample.

    Thanks for that input, Jabar.

Five hours into it now, and it's no more interesting, or oud-like in any way, than it was at the beginning. Very 'generic' smelling, and still reminding me, olfactorally, of a visit to the dentist's office. I've washed my arm twice already to remove it, but the beast has its claws in me and refuses to let go.

Yes, you received the proper sample.. its the saffron which gives that medicinal plasticky, latex gloves feeling.. The saffron in Baccarat Rouge 540 gives me the same latex gloves vibe...

Thanks for that observation, Hayling! And yes, you hit the nail on the head there with "medicinal, plasticky, latex gloves feeling."

I don't find the fragrance utterly and totally offensive, but merely quite off-putting. I could see a lot of nurses and dental hygienists possibly going for this one (in their off-hours).
