Not sure if Basenotes will be functional this Friday. As for the sync, Oceania makes me think Australia. I'll need something that speaks Australian. CuddleCat?

Oceania apparently also includes New Zealand, & a lot of the South Pacific lsland groups such as Polynesia, Tahiti & Fiji.

This gives me plenty of scope for choosing something based around my favourite white florals like tiare, gardenia & jasmine as well as coconut. So many to choose from!

I think I'll go according to my mood and weather.
If it's warm and I'll feel like going a beachy floral route together with teardrop, I'll probably choose Guerlain Terracotta.

If it's less warm and I'll feel too grumpy or too serious for flowers, I'll choose CK Contradiction for eucalyptus note.

If it's super warm and no florals or sweet tonka/coumarin base of CK will do, I'll start googling what fruits grow there and could any of my citruses fit.

Eucalyptus was my thought as well, Clockwork Alice, so I'd have to Synch in Penhaligon's Elixir or YSL Body Kouros.

Lemons, lemon myrtle, and tea tree are all popular scents for artisan soaps in Aus - so I'm already in Synch with my current bar of lemon myrtle+eucalyptus, and eucalyptus shampoo.

Gosh how perfect would Koala, the new Zoologist, be if anyone had a sample of that! I don't but am anxiously awaiting for Bloom to have it so I can give it a try.

I don't have a lot of these notes in my base collection so I had a dig through my samples and I've come up with You or Someone Like You by Etat Libre D'Orange ( eucalyptus, shiso, violet leaf & various mints) or Musc Maori by Pierre Guillaume (more for the name than the notes). Given how heavy MM is and how hot it's been in London that one is probably out.

I'm also thinking doing a "swimming/ocean" theme - Falling into the Sea by Imaginary Authors, Swim by Pierre Guillaume or Salado by Carner.

For the synch I'm concidering Datura noir (for the coconut note), Fracas (Tuberose) or even Interlude woman because of the weird Kiwi-note

In light of the 35-37 F heat spell that we'll be experiencing for the next couple of days I probably will be going with something that is friendly to warm weather. Creed Virgin Island Water comes to mind.

Confirmed Creed VIW for the Oceana sync:

Just saw N.Cal's post now. Australia is huge so there is a lot of options note-wise. Our top end has lots of dry, dusty red earth so any dry, dusty smelling scents would work. Western Australia produces Australian sandalwood and we have beautiful rain forests which are super green with various ferns and trees as well as our more standard bushland with the eucalyptus (gum) trees, tea trees and lemon mytles. We have the white sandy beaches so any tropical notes would work as well. In the last 10 years or so, cafes have become very popular so gourmand notes especially coffee and the various tea notes - oh and chocolate notes, too! Motor sports are very popular here as well so any notes associated with that would work, too! Hope this helps!

This morning, I went with Santal Spirit by Mount Romance (West Australian brand) which uses Australian sandalwood. Here's the scent description from the Mount Romance website: A homage to sandalwood itself, this fragrance created by internationally renowned perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour begins with floral notes of cardomom and ethereal sea breeze, moving to heart notes of coco milk and tonka bean, finishing strong with frankincense and vanilla backed up by musky amber tones complimenting the sweet creamy woody smell of genuine Quintis Sandalwood Album oil grown in the tropics of Australia.

I don’t know that I have anything that would qualify as representing Oceana, but since I’m participating in a conflicting synch, I guess that let’s me off for at least part of the day. Maybe I’ll do a separate morning and evening scent. Darn it. That means I’ve reactivated the conundrum, lol!

That's the plan, anyway. Even though it's breezy with only minimal homage to its namesake, it still might be a bit too much white floral in the current heat. We'll see how it goes.

I envision Eau de Cologne Imperiale to work nicely, it'll work for a sweltering like evening such as tomorrow.

PURO FICO by Officina delle Essenze, Eau de Parfum,

with fig leaf, fig fruit, coconut, sea water notes, almond blossom, sandalwood, green notes.

It fits perfect in the current heat, its longevity is enormous.

For today l picked CSP Tiare (representing Polynesia), & thinking of switching later to SP Parfums' Suntanglam, for the "dirty monoi" note.

While having no idea which scent personally owned might qualify among the ones by Oceania houses/designers, a sample by Royal Mayfair might at least in part still do the trick. Being both dominated by eucpalyptus and from a Commonwealth based house, though located/based in a part of the Commonwealth almost situated furthermost from Oceania.

Turned out to be a hot day here (yeh, don't laugh, it was 23C), so I started with the refreshing Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet for the citrus/lemon topnotes, since my friends in Aus and NZ North Island all have lemon trees in their gardens.

Followed this evening by YSL Body Kouros for the eucalyptus note. Haven't worn this for over a year, apparently, and I'm enjoying the incense-eucalyptus combo (like Elixir, then), plus camphor, mace, cedarwood, and a not-too-sweet/overpowering benzoin. Really pleasant.
