Default Just blind bought Bandit Homme by Robert Piguet

    What is it like?

    Very little info on it.

Looks like about 1990 or so.
FYI: I spray all fragrances on clothing, never on skin.

Bandit Homme? Are you talking about the one below? That's the only Bandit Homme I know. If so, it's very nice. I have had it for years. If not, can you share a photo?

From what I recall the Piguet Homme line was sold to some nondescript folks and they made a mockery out of it.
    Cheap bottles and bad fragrance
But that is just what I read. Have not tried it. Let us know what you think when you get it

I'm not sure it's all that rare. I've seen Bandit Homme around, albeit not as often as Bandit Light pour Homme. I have no idea what the difference is between them, having not smelled either.

The original Bandit Parfum of 1944 was a woman's fragrance, though a particularly butch one: I'm wearing it now, and it's no more or less feminine than Antaeus, so it's hardly a surprise that Piguet was marketing the EdT as masculine/unisex by the 1960s.

The rights to produce Piguet's line were purchased by Irwin Alfin and Adrien Arpel c. 1982, and by most accounts their reformulations were dismal. They also introduced some new Piguet frags, including men's versions of Bandit and Fracas, which are no more highly regarded than the reformulations (though, per Hednic, they have their fans). Fashion Fragrances & Cosmetics "rescued" the line in 1997, and reformulated the established fragrances again to more closely resemble the Germaine Cellier originals, followed by new scents under the Piguet banner. (These were reformulated yet again in 2006 to adhere to IFRA regs, so you may want to try earlier batches of those.) This did not include the Fracas, Bandit, and Bandit Light "Homme" trio—those only exist as Alfin scents.

You may like Bandit Homme—I hope so!—but I would still suggest you seek out some vintage Bandit EdT.

I know it is. Only Alfin Bandit Homme exists.

Sorry to say - this is probably one of the worst things I've ever smelled. I can't recall details, as it was a long time ago, but I recall absolutely hating it.

That being said, your mileage may vary, and even my tastes have changed since I smelled it, so your opinion may differ greatly.

so your understanding is that the versions of Bandit from Arfin on are not good? That covers a lot of ground. I understand they bought Piguet out in 1985? I'm not disagreeing with your opinion of course, just wondering if this is so, that since the buyout the versions are not good. I'm asking for opinions, as we all have them, LOL.

Thanks for your help and comments!

Bandit in itself is a challenging fragrance. It took me some tries to like it. Vintage EdT is no doubt the way to go, but I have tried the reformulated EdT and found it quite faithful to the original. However, I am not sure if my reformulated sample was from Alfin or post Alfin era.

That is my understanding, with the modification that the Alfin era was only 1982–1997. From 1997 is the FF&C period, which is considered preferable to Alfin but not as desirable as pre-Alfin Piguet (distributed in the US by Robert John Powers or Jacqueline Cochran, and sold early on as “Brigand”). And, again, Bandit Homme is not Bandit proper; it’s a separate concoction exclusive to Alfin.

The simplest distinction is that “good Bandit” is all lowercase, and “bad Bandit” is all caps. Except that bottle of yours is all lowercase, so maybe that wisdom is wrong. Of course, your mileage may vary.

For the Piguet completists out here...

Yes, it's a cheap smelling ambery concoction, but I have one friend who's crazy about it.

I have to correct myself - what I tried and hated was Bandit *Light* Pour Homme...not sure if it's the same as OP's.
