SOTN: Guerlain - Jardins de Bagatelle EdP

One of the relatively few feminines I’ve worn that makes me feel like I’m in drag. And with 80s shoulder pads, no less. Still, this Big White Floral is infinitely preferable to Memo Siwa. It’s just too pretty to be this indistinct: like a group photo of leggy blonde chorus girls, all adjacent to some sort of beauty ideal, their appeal diminished by sameness.

Poetic and enormously humourous to this Camel.

It's a fraction of the price compared to Siwa. Does Dr.Tricia own a bottle?

Love Ma Liberté. I have a perfectly good bottle of Léonard pour Homme that I’ve still never tried.

She does indeed, which was how I decided to wear the sample. I may gift her the remaining samples in this group (mostly Guerlain and Chanel feminines), since most are really single-application.

Thanks. And yes, I like the Arrogance Pour Homme. But for me, in terms of versatility, it's best suited for evening. It was "out-of-place" on my day off, lounging around. The opening reminded me of Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme.

Vermeil for Men - first sampling today. Didn't love the opening, but it's going in a nice direction.

Is the "Vermeil Red for Men" that I see online for peanuts the same as this, just in a different bottle than the original that looked like leather? There is no "Red" in the directory.

SOTE yesterday was Zino Davidoff. Man, my appreciation for that stuff is really growing. So smooth. If I were to pick a winter signature, it would be in the conversation.

    Rive Gauche.

Eh, this doesn't really do it for me. It's Azzaro + Barbasol and while that's a pleasant combination I don't understand how this became a mythic masculine aside from the "Tom Ford" legend.

I prefer Pascal Morabito Or Black.

^Inclined to agree, though my holdup is also that I get a rubbery-synthetic layer. Nice clovey-foamy-fougere accord...and a rubber glove. Totally ruins the effect for me.

It's definitely synthetic, and I totally get what you mean by "rubber glove"! I'll never be able to unsmell that.

Still, I don't hate it. I just don't understand the enthusiasm. (Same for M7, which is even more underwhelming.)

Haven't tried RGPH, but yes M7 is a bit 'hmmm' to me as well. I liked the Oud version better.

Yeah, it's on my to buy list. The vintage version is definitely out of question (price ) , so I think it's going to have to be the re-release.

SOTD: Caron Rose (from a sample)

Wears like a soliflore, though actually more complex. Opens greenish and stemmy, then blooms into a fuller flower, drying down to a slightly vanillic rose. On the prim side for my tastes, but well executed.
