Never know! I won't go out of my way for it because it's kinda rare, but if I bump into it, I'll try it out and compare to the EdT

    Tabu EDC, from a sample.

First wear. It smelled immediately, intimately familiar. In a minute or two, it hit me: Tauer 100% based Lonestar Memories on this. It’s like 90% similar. A little ways in, Tabu gets more dry, while LM goes more ambery. Still clearly cousins. We’ll see how it develops. Always liked LM; good to know it had a parent!

I'm wearing an old pre-barcode Furyo today as my SOTD.

This must be the most civety creation ever...I do enjoy it.
FYI: I spray all fragrances on clothing, never on skin.

Thanks! No, this is my first nosing of any Must, masculine or feminine. I’m also curious about the Anise flanker. I have yet to be disappointed in any Cartier. DrT doesn’t love this, though.

    Caron Eau de Cologne (1934)

Not the 1995 relaunch. The crown logo was used 1934–1969. Breaking the seal today on this 400ml bottle.

    ***

Legendary Chanel parfumeur Ernest Beaux once complained that when he used vanilla, he got crème anglaise, while when Jacques Guerlain used it, he got Shalimar. Ernest Daltroff could well have issued similar complaints.

If you love Pour un Homme, chances are you'll love this. If you don't—and I'm afraid I don't—then perhaps not. While Pour un Homme was groundbreaking in its day, Ernest Daltroff never really showed much interest in masculine perfumery before or after. (Caron wouldn't issue another proper masculine until Vincent Marcello's Yatagan in 1976, which is about as far from Pour un Homme as perfumery gets.) Pour un Homme had flankers like Les Plus Belles Lavandes that didn't stray much from the genteel minimalist original apart from a slight rebalancing of the notes, and never far enough away from a rather simple powdery vanilla to suit my tastes. This Eau de Cologne, while not officially a flanker, smells pretty much like "Pour un Homme Eau de Cologne," not a huge surprise given PuH and EdC were both issued in the same year. As history, interesting: as fragrance, not so much.

Give me Le 3ème Homme or, for that matter, any number of classic Caron feminines that offer more in the way of complexity and, yes, cojones. If I want to wear an EdC from the house, I'll happily go with Eau de Caron.

I haven't tried any older versions of Egoiste yet. I'll sample it one day. The current version bottle that I have is one of those fragrances that I "like" but don't "love". I've heard so much about the sandalwood note in Egoiste, but alas, I detect none in this current version bottle.

I’ve never tested Lonestar Memories and I don’t wear vintage Tabu, although I respect it, but this association delights me and I am now curious to smell it myself. Tauer’s fantasy cowboy wearing Tabu...

Having not heard of this, had to look it up. By the description, and reviews (although not many), it sounds like something I'd like.

Every time I wear this I wonder if this is the most intricate and painstakingly crafted fragrance I know of. It could be. Oh the fine balance and the sophisticated nuances.
