Default Balenciaga Pour Homme is a masterpiece

I didn’t like it before. Now I’m loving it. The opening and the dry down are simply incredible.
FYI: I spray all fragrances on clothing, never on skin.

    Wonderful scent.

Rumored to be the first western fragrance with oud in it although my nose can't get it.

But yes, high quality fragrance indeed.

I wouldn't say it's the first Western fragrance with oud in it, but probably the first trying to mimic an animalic oud accord. Compare Balenciaga pour Homme to modern-day Oud Palao by Diptyque and you'll see what I mean. They're birds of a feather born decades apart.

This was one I failed to backup to sufficiently before scalpers sent it into the hundreds of dollars per bottle, but after some time spent with it, I realized it's both so strong, and such a demanding wear (attention-wise), that the 2 100ml bottles I have will likely be a lifetime supply.

This is literally a 2 spray fragrance for 24hr performance.

I wore this yesterday. It's fantastic. Really just a nice fragrance with a plethora of notes that take center stage including cinnamon, patchouli, rose, musk, sandalwood and oakmoss. It's almost like each note takes it's part in a play all by itself and ends with all coming together. The quality of ingredients used, you can tell are top notch as well.

I personally don’t think there is any oud in it (or at least I don’t smell any), but no matter, the composition is exceptional and surely a favorite.

Not really, for me, it has very nice opening but the dry down becomes cloying and sweet mess that lasts forever.
I personally think they try to go after the Lapidus success of the late 80s the incense woody beeswax mix. Even the 30, 50 and 100 ml bottles try to copy Lapidus style bottles.
Lapidus is miles ahead and it is the Masterpiece for me.

It's funny you say that because both Ted Lapidus and Parfums Balenciaga were owned by The Bogart Group at the time, so it wasn't so much copying the competition, but the same company releasing similar scents in different branches to repeat its own success!!

I own a mini bottle. I thought it was alright but not enough to justify a larger bottle as an investment.

I scored 2x30ml bottles back in early 2018 for £40 each which I thought was quite pricey. Interestingly (and annoyingly), both were from the same seller yet the 2nd bottle feels much brighter, makes me think the first has spoiled a little. Looks like it'd be difficult to get more of it nowadays.

Shame, I've really started to like it - took me perhaps 6 wearings or so to really *get* it, but oh well!

I reckon it was 6 to 7 years ago that someone posted a link to a batch of 100ml testers on ebay going for around $80. Picked up one and it was pure heaven. The list of notes is on the bottle (no oud) and they put everything but the kitchen sink in it. Sweet, woody, mossy, spicy, balsamic, animalic, it ticks a lot of boxes and scores a goal every time. Probably my favorite vintage frag and I own a lot of them.
"I exist for myself, and for those to whom my unquenchable thirst for freedom gives everything, but also for everyone, since insofar as I am able to love - I love everyone. Of noble hearts, I am the noblest - and the most generous of those that yearn to give love in return. - I am a human being, I love death and I love life."

    Egon Schiele - Self-Potrait

My classics: Dior Homme EdT, YSL Rive Gauche PH, Helmut Lang Cuiron, L'Occitane Neroli (vintage), Davidoff Zino, L'Occitane Eau des Baux

I found an old bottle of Balenciaga pour Homme a few months ago (when i seriously decided to go into vintage scents); it's a 30 ml bottle.
2 sprays lasts forever. I first thought it smelled very strong, animalic, woody, but also very complex, with a very sweet powdery drydown. When my 17 years old daughter smelled it on a paper, several days of drydown after - and scent still alive - she said "it reminds me of the inside of an old house." Yes, it has this "old" side, but with a strength, a projection and a complexity that put it on the masterpiece shelf.
I bought another 30 ml bottle with box a few days ago, it smells really, really fantastic. But yes, it's a bit pricey nowadays...
