Default If I wanted that GIT vibe....

but didn't want weak sauce, which substitute would you suggest?
It doesn't have to be the cheapest option but I can't afford the original GIT.
However, I'd want something that smells close enough and performs decently.

So which one and if possible...WHY?
Please base your choice on smell (how close to GIT is it?), performance (how does it project and last?) and cost (not just price but also VFM/bang for buck etc.)
    .
From what I know my choices are, (based on currently, easily available formulations) in order of most expensive first):-

    Floris JF

    Al Haramain L'Aventure Knight

    Davidoff Cool Water (current)

    Armaf Tres Nuit

I haven't tested GIT. But it is said that Rasasi Egra is a clone of GIT.
Indeed, it corresponds to the description - a green Cool Water.
I'm really not a fan of aquatics/ozonics and I also hate violet leaf, but Egra it's pleasant, with solid performances on my skin.

Hm. Ive never tried ripGIT, but the new Cool Water is a bit sharp and thin, though definitely smells like Cool Water. I owned Tres Nuit. It is alright, acceptable smelling, but I didnt like that triangle bottle with the fake leather. Both are a decent $20 value in my eyes.
    I smell.

Probably one of the mentioned Middle-Eastern clones. The GIT accord is well-characterized. Don't deal with more expensive clones; I'm sure Parfums Vintage is doing one at 8x the cost of Armaf or Rasasi.

Modern Cool Water is not that great. Bears resemblance to GIT, sure, but lacks longevity and the dry down is rough.

Honestly, if those were my choices, I'd just try to get a decant of real GIT.

The only alternative (not listed) that comes to mind would be Rogue Perfumery's Fougère L'Aube which I suppose isn't completely off your price scale. Depends how much juice you want really. It's very strong and long lasting and comes off quite close to GIT.

Voted for JF by Floris, but not just due to liking this fragrance but the house in general, therefore influenced by an even larger degree of personal preference and subjectivity

You've asked this question a few times now, on fragrantica and on here.

I'll recommend again - Carven Pour Homme (the black bottle). The fact you've listed some bang average/disgusting clones and not this tells me you're not actually listening to/reading the suggestions you're being given.

Just buy some samples of all the fragrances you're interested in and go from there. No one can give you the exact answer you're looking for in this thread if you don't try the things.

    Good luck.

Decant of GIT, the ambergris used is the key none of the clones use that expensive quality key ingredient.

Aspen smells a lot like GIT for a quarter of an hour. Then they diverge.

Over the years, many here have said that Kiton Men and Curve smell like it. I like both - especially Kiton Men - but the similarity is too slight for me.

When I first smelled GIT, I thought it was nearly the same as Cool Water. But later was wondering what I was thinking, as they subsequently smelled nothing alike to my nose.

I don't get the Aspen, Curve, or Kiton comparisons. The smell different from one another and none of them are anywhere close to GIT.

Hunt down a vintage Cool Water. Should be able to find one for a reasonable price. Vintage Cool Water is very close to GIT.

The only ones I like are JF, which is weaker by far than GIT, and BN9 Chez Bond, which isn't really much cheaper than GIT.

I concur with the others, don't waste your time and money, just buy a decant of GIT. There are usually plenty available at any given time.

Have you tried Houbigant's Fougère Royale - can usually be found for much less than a bottle of GIT and if memory serves me well it's in the same vein.

Get Cool Water. Definitely better than GIT in my opinion. Cool Water is basically GIT minus the green bits and with added aquatic bits.

We're all aware that when the "I need an acquisition" monster taps on the shoulder, it's hard to hold off.

Some of us have more resources than others.

I advise if you love GIT, just delay until you can purchase.

Every time you wear a compromise purchase you made, you just remember it's a compromise, and that you really wanted GIT. (Been there- done that). Plus the money spent on the compromise takes away from a potential future GIT purchase.

Check into splits or small decants if need be.

I joined Basenotes looking for a scent that smelled like an expensive frag that I loved. I surfed quietly awhile and concluded anything else would be a shoddy compromise and every time I wore it I'd be pissed.

I waited until I could afford it and pulled the trigger.

I have not tied Rogue Perfumery's Fougère L'Aube, but my sense is that it is somewhat similar and has a nice quality all its own. You can get a 30ml not too pricey.
Between Covid and retirement I don't get out much. But when I do, I smell real good.

This is very nice and it gives a nod to GIT but also has its own unique thing going on. I was thoroughly impressed with this one out of all the Rogue Perfumery samples I went through.

That one is a good fougere to try. It does have some similarities to GIT.

I'd be cautious getting any decant, many of them are fraudulent, either watered-down or using clones. You just don't know what you are getting.
