    Default Site downtime 14th August

    Hello all

As you may have noticed, the modernisation of the Basenotes forums is taking a lot longer than expected. Turns out having kids off school since March doesn't really allow much time to concentrate! So apologies for the mega delay.

In other news, on 14th August I'm going to be taking the site offline (maybe just the forums, i'll see what I can do) so that I can do the much needed update to https. The site may not need to be offline very long, but as always with these things, something unexepected turns up and causes some unknown "fun"

Thanks all for being here, and hope you're all keeping well in the most weird of years

    Cheers

    Grant

Also, this month is our 20th Birthday. I was going to do something nice to celebrate but I will be postponing it until next year when we are 21!

I think the 21st Anniversary should be celebrated with another 1999 throwback (recall April Fool's Day several years ago).

Okay we're back and we have finally caught up with 2006 and got the https sorted out, so hopefully you won't get moaned at by your browser about the site being a massive danger to existence itself.

My next job is to basically recode all the ebay stuff in the directory, as they are changing how they do things at the end of August, and the eBay links pretty much keep this site online, so I'd better get on that. After that, I can get back to work on the new forums, so expect them in around 2023 the way things are going.

CHeers all and hurrah for padlocks in the URL bar

Let me know if you see anything broken as a result of this. I've done some checking, but bound to miss a few things

Okay, I'm already finding bits that are causing the padlock to not be happy, so getting on with them now. SHould be able to do all that with the site online though, so no distruptions for you with a bit of luck!

Thank you for keeping the site safe and up to date and best luck recoding the eBay links!
By the way - is there a way to help you add stuff to directory, as keeping it up to date is clearly too much work for one person? I'm sure more people would be glad to help, too.

Thank you for your work on updating the site!

I second the question about the directory and would be more than happy to volunteer to help.
    Loves:
Florals (especially rose, tuberose, cherry blossom, orange blossom, osmanthus, ylang ylang, immortelle, violet, jasmine, plum blossom, heliotrope, and iris)
Orientals (especially spicy, woody, and floral orientals)
    Boozy notes
    Chypres (especially with real oakmoss)
    Rich gourmands
    Animalic fragrances
    Great longevity and sillage

After the ebay links are done, and the forums updated, the next step is directory rehaul, which will allow a wider amount of people to contribute ot the directory directly.

My aim is to have a system where members can add stuff, and then perhaps each thing that is added gets checked by another member to make sure it's okay (to avoid spamming etc) My aim was to have this all done a lot sooner, but this year has been weird.

Grant, think Tapatalk isn’t working. I’m getting alerts but otherwise unable to browse posts through it.

My Firefox browser is reading the site as secured (padlock on, https://), but my Chrome browser is still reading it as "not secure".

I'm on Chrome and it reads secure to me.

Except, interestingly enough, right after I post. Then it reads as not secure until I refresh.

I've not tested with Chrome yet, but looks like I'm getting the not secure after I refresh. There's probably a stray bit of code that hasn't been updated so I'll investigate.

Going to double check w/ Tapatalk as well

Tapatalk should be okay now, but let me know if not. (I updated their end to reflect the https)

Going to see if I can work out the unsecure after posting business now
