Default Recommendation for Men's Fragrance in a Office/School setting

I am new to using fragrances. Last year I recently blindly bought a bottle of lacoste essential, but i feel like the scent does not last even an hour. I have gotten 0 compliments. I believe it's time for a change...

I need a scent that will turn heads, but appropriate for the setting! I've watched a couple of you tube videos and read up on some articles... and the two most common ones that I've seen constantly are 1. Dior Sauvage 2. Chanel de bleu (pretty pricey)

I am a graduate student so I can't afford over the top expensive fragrances! Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Bleu de Chanel is pretty good, IMO. Sauvage is ok.
Go out and sample Mont Blanc Explorer, Dior Homme, and Acqua Di Gio Profumo. You may like one of these and they don't break the bank.

The new Dior Homme, probably. Maybe Versace Pour Homme. These are pretty safe. They're sort of take offs on Chanel fragrances (Bleu and Allure Homme Sport), but Chanel was inspired by other stuff as well, and these are arguably better versions of the ideas than the Chanels.

From Mont Blanc, Explorer or Legend. I think Legend might work better, but I think the new Dior Homme (2020) is the best fit.

If you really want attention, maybe Explorer, but quiet confidence might play better in grad school.

If you like something a little old school, maybe Fahrenheit. I get compliments on Fahrenheit, or at least comments.

If you want an old-school musky rose marketed to men to stand toe-to-toe with feminine florals, look on eBay for Balenciaga Ho Hang Club.

Welcome to you chewydrop! Enjoy your time here at Basenotes! Perhaps Burberry London.

Welcome to Basenotes! The original Dior Homme (which can be found easily on Ebay) will be perfect.

Avoid Sauvage. Bleu de Chanel is a fine pick, as is Montblanc Legend and Acqua di Gio Profumo.

Lacoste Essential is a terrible fragrance IMO.

In an office setting, you don't want anything too loud.

Dunhill Icon is a good one. Distinctive enough to stand out but still broadly appealing.

Two of my standby office frags, when I used to go to the office, were Tom Ford Grey Vetiver and Creed Original Vetiver. You can find them at affordable prices at discounters or ebay.

This, Egoiste and Pour Monsieur would be good choices.

Agree with Original Vetiver. Green Irish Tweed would be good as well from Creed.

Also adding Mugler Cologne, Lalqiue White and Best of Chevignon among on budget school setting/office-appropriate options, in addition to your initial choices and the many great recommendations already mentioned

Maybe try Prada Luna Rossa Carbon. It's in the same kind of ballpark as Sauvage and such scents, but it's probably more suited to the office/school setting, plus it's usually more affordable.

    D&G The One EDP
    Mont Blanc Explorer

    (NEW)
Boss Bottle EDP (not to be confused with the "Intense"). It's not out yet but could be interesting.

It was common for me receiving compliments wearing Montblanc Individuel, 212 Men (people outside the fragrance game love it), 212 Splash and Burberry Touch.
I dont understand. It is so vast that surpasses all understanding.Understanding is always limited. But not understanding can have no boundaries.I feel like I'm much more complete when I don't understand. Not understanding, like I say,is a gift. Not understanding, but not as a simple-minded.The good thing is to be intelligent and not understand. It's a strange blessing, like having craziness without being crazy. It is a meek disinterest,it is a stupid sweetness.

I initially thought you were referring to the number of compliments you received from men!

LOL. I don't think I've received all that compliments. Men do this too; I think all them were next to me. From strangers I don't remember any. Memory doesn't serve me well remembering some funny/odd situations when I received compliments. I can just remember being stopped on the street by a woman curious about the perfume and something like a girlfriend asking for her boyfriend what fragrance was that. My selective memory usually erases situations when I feel embarrassed/shy and when something awful happens (the details usually disappear). I believe it’s due to the aluminum of deos/antiperspirants.

I've worn Dior Homme (circa 2014 bottle) with lots of compliments in an office setting, as well as almost any of the Varvatos line (Original especially) as they tend to be on the weaker end of projection (not always a bad thing in enclosed spaces).

Pretty good but I think Code A-List is much much better. Still has the same Code structure and DNA but more smoothed out.
