Thread: Which classic

  1. #1

    Default Which classic

I have gone through a “change” over the past 6 months and am struggling to wear heavy scents which dominate my wardrobe.

I have recently bought both Green Irish Tweed and Invasion Barbere.

Both are clean, polished, fresh and last 10 hours on my skin. My wife loves both.

Which (subjectively) is the forums preference gentleman’s scent?

    Thanks

Of those two - Green Irish Tweed for me although also love the other.

Well GIT is a long time Basenoter's favorite frag and in a vote will always win up against most anything.

Personally, would never knock it, but I sort of tired of it. Had longevity issues with it.

INVASION BARBARE probably closest I've ever come to a signature scent. I burned through a bottle in two years (which is fast for me). Love it.

I think you've got two great scents. I'd venture that most in your world think you're nicely scented and your wife likes them too.

Sounds like winning all the way around.
Between Covid and retirement I don't get out much. But when I do, I smell real good.

Thanks all... I think it’s herd choose but would if forced to pick just one would go with GIT for just sheer all round ability.

I'm confused. You said you bought both. You're a Basenoter. You can wear both. Just not at the same time.

You will smell great either way.

I've not tried Invasion Barbare but Green Irish Tweed is a major favorite of mine.

If the G in GIT didn't stand for Green, it would stand for Gentleman. So for me, GIT is the gentleman fragrance between the two.

    Don't worry about that.

I love this forum, but the nose to follow is your own. If one of the two scents you're asking about was junk, I'd be among the many to say so, but both are excellent, so you can't go wrong here. Take the time to figure out which speaks to you more & which you think suits you more. There is no right or wrong answer. It's about figuring out which you enjoy more.

If you'd added 1725 to your list, that would be my choice. 1725 is similar to Invasion Barbare, but the base is just a bit sweeter and warmer thanks to the addition of almond. In the air though, 1725 is quite dapper, as is Invasion Barbare. Excellent stuff. That being said... Green Irish Tweed is excellent too. As long as you pick the one that you enjoy the most, you can't go wrong.

    Or great. Or grand.

Without having tried IB, is the head to head battle based on comparisons or just a random A vs. B thread?

    Depends on who is commenting.
IB was wonderful when it first came out, whereas now it has been reformulated to clove oil. A definite pass for me and never a contender to GIT (which has also been weakened).

As I said, you're a Basenoter. You have both. Wear both. Enjoy both.

Lucky you to have two greats.
Personally, INVASION BARBARE is one of my all time favorites.

    But our opinions are meaningless.

What do YOU think of them?

IB is lovely and used to be talked about a lot on these boards as did MDCI in general - funny how times change

Slightly preferring out of these two GIT as well-due to its everyday versatile and quite fresh take on/rendition of niche

I am curious would Ormande Jayne Man change the opinion of those who picked either GIT or IB...

Not sure I understand the question about "changing my opinion."

I have worn all three. They are three great fragrance and not particularly similar except that all three are pretty well regarded.

    I would personally rank them:

    INVASION BARBARE
    ORMANDE MAN
    GREEN IRISH TWEED

But that's simply my own wearing preferences. As I noted earlier in this thread, in a voting/popularity contest, GIT will always win here.

Which one is "better" is a classification that would have to be your choice.

As long as you can afford it, there is certainly room for all three in your wardrobe.
They are all killers in their own right.

I'm not sure if INVASION BARBARE and ORMANDE MAN have made the leap into being considered "classics" but maybe I'm out of touch.
