Default Initio Oud for Greatness ? is it Really that Great ?

    Hi Guys,

I wanted to ask the community here what is it about the Initio Parfums OUD for Greatness that the entire Internet is going Ga-Ga over it ? It has garnered some very rave reviews and feedback. Almost every Fragrance reviewer on YouTube is going berserk with words of extremely high praise for it?

Does it deserve the kind of hype it has been getting ? is it like one of the best OUD mixed fragrances ever made ?

For me my all time favourite OUD based Fragrance was Yes it was the Vintage YSL M7 (2002) that was the best combination using just a tiny it, little bit of OUD with otherwise a completely a western fragrance and I have always been looking for something like that. I strongly believe OUD can be such a harsh note if not used with the right combination note it smells so pungent that it can choke somebody to death.

OUD in its raw form is just revolting !!

So I am always looking out for an OUD fragrance which is mixed with something else like some other notes. And I came across the name of OUD for Greatness. I have also heard great review for Fragrance du Bois OUD Vert Intense and Blu Intense ?which one of the Ouds is better ? Initio OUD for greatness or Fragrance Du Bois OUD vert intense ?

Also is Initio OUD for greatness even better smelling than Amouage Interlude and Roja Musk Aoud ? I am in love with Roja Musk Aoud it think it is one of the most luxurious and opulent and rich fragrances ever created. it is just mind blowing for me in terms of smelling fantastic in sequence and serial wise how would you rate these fragrances ?

    Vintage (2002) YSL M7
    Amouage Interlude Man
    Roja Parfum Musk Aoud
    Initio OUD for Greatness
Fragrance du Bois OUD Vert Intense and Blu Intense ?

Which one of all these smell incredibly amazing and beautiful ? And has a massive Projection ?

    Thoughts ? Opinions ?

You've asked more questions than I can answer. And a lot of the question you ask are very subjective.
Does it smell "incredibly amazing and beautiful?" Not to me but to some others maybe so. Maybe to you.

I tried it and found it pleasant enough. A bit sweet.

I'm a mature guy and it strikes me as semi-loud and aimed at the people you see raving about it.

I think it's less an oud scent than it is a sweet scent in the vein of many Parfumes de Marly.

If "massive projection" is one of your goals, this may fill the bill.

I'll let others more familiar weigh in.
Between Covid and retirement I don't get out much. But when I do, I smell real good.

Have no idea. It's just a nice fragrance IMO and happy to own a bottle.

Between Amouage Interlude and Memo Italian leather and this one Initio OUD for greatness which one would be considered more of a crowd Pleaser ?

I'm not sure if I have tried the Memo, but I can tell you that Oud for Greatness is by far more mass pleasing than Interlude Man.
Some people get an "ashtray" association with the scent of Interlude so they really dislike it.

Oud for Greatness is a nice fragrance but I honestly think it's way overpriced.
It reminds me a lot of Parfums de Marly Nisean, which is more "green" and patchouli heavy. Wouldn't be surprised if both are done by the same perfumer.

If you are looking for a mass pleasing scent in this realm, I'd rather go with Herod, Carlisle or Side Effect.
But they don't smell like "oud" (Aaron Terence Hughes said he thinks there isn't any real oud in Oud for Greatness... of course it's only his own opinion).

It's just nice, but nothing special. All the buzz about it was initiated by the PR of the brand.

To be honest I don't wear fragrances to please anyone but myself, so really can't answer that. As to which of the three pleases me the most it is the Memo followed by the Initio.

Similar but they didn't ask 11 questions. Only wondered why OUD FOR GREATNESS didn't get a lot of love here.

Because it's basically a Parfums de Marly fragrance.

Its Viking meets BR540. Id hazard to say if your BR540 then youd like this one too. Its available on grey market for like $200 i think. It is very much like a PdM, and thats not a compliment.
    I smell.

Of Course Oud For Greatness is great, just like Old Spice is old and spicy. It's right there in the name.

i dont know about all the hype as i dont follow frag reviewers, but ive owned OFG since it came out and have loved it since the first time i smelled it. to me its a reimagined 80's masculine fougere with a piercing lavender/saffron combo that i find extremely pleasing, i also get nuclear performance from it. an amazing frag for me.

When you compare it with the likes of Amouage-Interlude and Memo Italian Leather ? Which would have a one arm distance projection ?

Big fan of the scent and think it's quite unique despite all the comparisons to mixtures of other fragrances. You definitely need to try it, just to find out for yourself because typical fragrances that are hyped in YT are almost always loathed on here. Sometimes just for the fact that it IS hyped. I usually don't get on hype trains, but this one just resonated with me and enjoy wearing it when I do.

I've actually not tried interlude (I know, amazing!) or Italian Leather. It is definitely a western style oud, as mentioned, but I believe is well done and I would consider mass appealing.

I have only experienced it on others, very loud and sweet. Not my taste, but obviously aimed at mass appeal in the same ballpark as PDM frags....

    Gucci Intense Oud.

It's cheap here in Europe and smells really nice.
I even like it better than Black Afgano.

(I know there's no real Oud in it)

You are comparing a dinner in a great burger joint with a dinner at a 3-michelin stars restaurant. They are both great taken in their own categories, but not the same price point.

In terms of ingredients quality, Roja and FdB are in the top league, while Amouage is a step lower, and Initio 2 steps lower.
I haven't tried FdB Oud Vert Intense, so I have no clues about that one.

And despite I haven't tried Initio OfG, I can blindly state that my choice between that one and Roja Musk Aoud is a no brainer win for Roja, a I might agree with you that Roja MA is probably one of the smoothest and most luxurious fragrances I have ever smelt in my life.
Now, is the Roja worth $600? Probably not in my book. But since the Initio retails for $250, at that point I might change my mind and think that Roja MA IS worth $600...
As for Interlude, it's not oud-centered, so hardly comparable with the other 3. And anyways, again: Amouage quality is overall better than Initio without a doubt, but still, lower than Roja.

My advice? Do like me: get a decant of Roja Musk Aoud, and cherish it.

after trying Agar Aura, I see what they were "going for" in Oud for greatness and the Fragrance du bois frags I've tried. That sharp, clean, chemical but natural smell, is what agar aura actually has, and what these were trying to recreate. I think it is entirely different than the style of oud being captured in say ysl m7, amouage, and I haven't tried the rest so I can't say. It is also different from the oud's i've tried from ALF, EO, Areej...

So I think you need to know what style of oud you want first, because they are all so different, to me. Or just sample all of them and see what you want. Better yet, sample agar aura.

I personally despise fragrances that copy others without mentionning they're a clone

Boss Bottled Oud is really weak, even weaker than Versace Oud Noir.
Gucci Intense Oud is much much stronger than both.

I wouldn't call Gucci Intense Oud a clone. It's just in the same genre, like Carner Barcelona Cuirs is too.
A clone would be Rasasi Rumz 9453 (the leopard bottle) or the Swiss Arabian one.
