Default AdP - Colonia & other fragrances from this house

    Gents.....

AdP Colonia was one of my first purchases after joining Basenotes. I have not found another fragrance where the first 30-45 minutes of wear are better. IMO.
Unfortunately like many citrus fragrances the longevity and shift to skin only scent happens much too quickly.

Are there other fragrances from AdP worth considering with better longevity and projection that smell as heavenly as Colonia....... I hope so.

    Appreciate any suggestions!

Colonia Assoluta is lovely and is my favorite of the Colonias.

Unfortunately, as you point out, this is what citruses do. Citrus notes simply don't last. They drydown, if any, has to go somewhere else. As brooks was saying, I also enjoy the colonia assoluta, but it is not better (and not much longer lasting) than the original one.
There are other nice perfume in the line, but they are not citruses and smell very different.

Have you tried spraying your clothes or shirt, has that helped at all? The Absoluta and Intensa would be a good alternative the Intensa has a darker dry down though with a leather note sample first.

    None I can think of.

    As an alternative

Essenza is a worthy substitute for the original Colonia and in my experience lasts longer with an emphasis on neroli.

Tried them all and like the original Colonia the most.

I know that many guys say that Colonia Essenza is the improved and longer lasting version of the original.
But to me it really has that sort of bug spray character and I wouldn't wear it.
I personally find there's a huge difference smellwise between both.

If you like the original, buy the big bottle and use a travel spray for refreshing the scent.

Colonia Leather will last all day. A different type of beast though. If leather is your thing, you're in luck.

In over 10 year of Basenotes and at a wet shaver web site, I have seen many a man lament the fleeting nature of citrus scents.

I've concluded the citrus note is a favorite for many men, but scents where the full on citrus goodness lasts are pretty rare, or contain other notes which extend the overall effect.

There are a lot of threads here about this this.

Plenty has been said about AdP and the demise of the brand over time. You can try to find an older bottle of Colonia or as others have said try to settle for the Essenza version. Though I do find this one quite a synthetic smelling neroli in its current form.

Boucheron PH might work for you or even Chanel Pour Monsieur although neither are exactly the same sort of scent.

My favorite from the brand would have to be Assoluta. But as others have said, it doesn't last long. But isn't that the nature of citrus fragrances? Embrace it! If you want it to last longer try spraying more, or do touch ups. But other than that there's nothing that can be done.

Yes it is, but men new to scents who like citrus are often seeking the elusive long lasting citrus scent.

My guess is the OP wants a scent that smells like COLONIA for 8 hours.

    Alas, it doesn't exist.

Not so sure about that.... I get 8 hours out of Colonia unless it's pushing past 90 or am active outside the whole time. Granted it's not the "fog of wonderful" as in when you spray it, but keep getting wafts of it now and again at least that long. That's with 3 or 4 sprays... I generally have found it has more longevity than other citrus favorites but it definitely takes a big hit in projection over time.

Granted noses... and weather.... varies. But instead of looking for something else maybe try an extra spray or two to arms, not head area, and especially with cooler weather coming you may find it's still there longer than you think. South Florida in August may be different and a challenge to many scents' lasting power.....

I have tried just about every ADP and others are right, Essenza is the only other one with a very similar citrus part. It might last a bit longer, hard to say for sure. There are some good scents in the blue and black lines but they are quite different and not about the citrus that makes colonia so great.

I would recommend Colonia Assoluta as the next choice but the original is the best by far.

    I'm sorry OP.

Forget about AdP Colonia and move on if you want longevity.

It was (and arguably is as the scent my wife most associates with me) my signature scent.

It was fine and dandy when I knew nothing about scents - however once you discover a long last scent edp or Parfum... you will not be satisfied. No amount of reapplying lessens the disappoint meant.

When you then discover extraits which last 16hours (Nudiflorum for me) you just won’t be able to deal with the 2 hours Colonia graces you with.

Echo all of this. I too find Essenza, while ok, to have synthetic-smelling elements. Colonia and Assoluta are arguably the house's two best efforts, though a reflection of its decline is the apparent discontinuation of the latter.

Like other stated before, Colonia Assoluta and Colonia Intensa are the best alternatives of this house (with the latter being my favourites of the "clear" colonia line)

If you look for an alternative similar to AdP Colonia, in a different house, I'd suggest Eau de Guerlain and La Cologne du Parfumeur, both by Guerlain.
If you look for a good performing citrus scent, I'd suggest MFK Petit Matin (3-D citrus/neroli/musk). For a strong performing citrus scent, I'd suggest Bergamask by Orto Parisi (as the name implies - bergamot and musk, with support of sandalwood and amber). Not really close to AdP Colonia, but maaan does it project and last!
