Default Love It, Like It or Indifferent...a wardrobe review

Just for kicks, I ranked my wardrobe of 46 active bottles (14 others are "museum" pieces from my youth). Just a quick knee-jerk ranking of how I feel about them.

    I found:

    I love about 20.

    I like about 22.

    I'm indifferent to around 4.

Maybe it’s the minimalist in me, but if I don’t at least “like” a fragrance, I just get rid of it

Life’s too short to wear stuff that I merely tolerate!

My personal general observation of my collection would be:

    Love many

    Like the remainder

    Indifferent to none

I have slimmed my wardrobe down a lot and have kept the ones I enjoy, some I don’t wear as often as I’d like to due to picking something else or preferred work fragrances.

hehe, my wardrobe is still small and new to me - and I love them all.

Perhaps one day I will get to the position where I have some scents I am no longer keen on.

    For me...

    Love: all 11.

    like: none.

dislike/hate: 5. I don't list them in my wardrobe because I never wear them and keep them hidden away.

I think I love everything (4 or 5 out of 5 stars) so far with the exceptions of:
    Aventus
A Midsummer Dream (not sure yet, the drydown was awesome, but performance is a question)

Some I haven't quite decided a rating on yet (like The Moon, Sauvage Parfum, and Ombre Leather).

But in general, if it's not at least a 4 out of 5 stars I don't keep it. The biggest exception is Aventus, because, yeah. Haha.

Oh, and I still need to try the Egyptian Musk Golden Anbar Superior on skin.

The ones I am indifferent on are perfect for room sprays. That's why I keep mine around.

Because four bottles is plenty for a wardrobe, and because I've identified four classics that I'm a fan of, I'm going with Love:

    Dior Homme (2005);
    Egoiste;
    Fahrenheit; and
    Polo.

If we're talking about my wardrobe, I would need to get out the smelling salts, I'm so impressed with it. I have all four in that list, for starters. My scent of the day is Ho Hang Club, which suits me especially well.

What I find is I generally love most when I wear them, but don't "urge" for all of them equally.

Chuck, you are my idol - you are so into this hobby but have a 'relatively' modest collection, you are a selective person and I admire your restraint!

I appreciate the kind words, but the only reason for my "relatively modest" collection is that I have a "revolving door" on my wardrobe. I have been selling off pretty frequently for years now. And then buying new ones with the proceeds.

But ya know, just lately (the old timers here are rolling their eyes) I have been counting the cost of what I'm losing on the re-sales and the postage cost I lose. It ain't chump change. Plus I'm tired of the shipping process (not to mention the cost of tape and boxes).

So I'm trying to be far more selective and cut down the impulse buying. This will be my umpteenth attempt to do so. But I took a good look at my collection and thought "that's a nice, well-rounded group".

And honestly, I hope to retire in about 14 more years, and now is the time to accelerate my 401K plan. It's decent, but I need to put my foot on the gas. My two sons should be off my "payroll" in about 5 or 6 years, so that will help stoke the 401K as well.

Like most of it up to the point of enjoying my choice. Except perhaps 20-30 at most did buy far more based on fads, peer pressure and/or discounts rather than actual personal preference am not fully indifferent but still not that excited about.

See what you've started? This all your fault!

I've already started weeding out fragrances from my collection. My son is going to smell pretty good.

Another (more positive) way to think about trimming down a collection: Why smell like anything less than your best?

    I have 48 scents

I love Nasomatto Nudiflorum, AdP Colonia and Knize Ten.

I really like Philosykos EDP, GIT, Floris Santal and Eau Sauvage.

Eau Sauvage, Santal and AdP are too fleeting but are important memories for me so I always will have em.

I could have a wardrobe of Nudiflorum, Philosykos and Knize Ten.

The rest I could do with out

Fragrances I don't love only stay around long enough for me to confirm that I don't love them.

I dont keep my wardrobe active or updated here, but earlier in the year I had around 60-65 fragrances.

After much thought, I sold the majority of those off, to achieve a new direction I wanted to go in, one that would remain in place for many years to come ( as I simply did not want to continue collecting fragrances anymore )

I sold most of my wardrobe off to fund my Roja Parfums purchases.

For a few months now, I have consistently and exclusively only worn Rojas fragrances.

I have around 15 Rojas now and very happy with this.

Of the 51 currently listed in my wardrobe (which I believe is accurate), I have approximately 40 loves, 10 likes, and 1 indifferent. The indifferent one is what you would call “a museum piece,” with sentimental value.

My plan is to Sell off those 10 “likes,” replace them with a few “loves,” and cap things off at 45. It’s finding those few remaining loves that’s the real challenge. There’s Creed’s Spice & Wood for sure, and possibly Private Label or Ormonde Man, but I don’t want to buy them again only to realize why I sold them off in the first place and then do it all over again. But those are the ones that stick out after my massive reduction over the past couple of years (which I don’t regret at all, and consider one of the best things I’ve done for myself regarding my wardrobe).

    Total - 94 bottles

    Love - 34

Like or mild like - 60
They are in a sort of extended trial period, to check if somehow I start to love one of them and can be included in the first category. There's no rush.
The ones I don't like become for sale.
