Good morning everyone Today I needed something sweet and not to complicated. It's quite dark outside now and soon the sun will go under the horizon for about 2 months. Looking forward to having tomorrow off. But now I'm off to an early shift in Gaultier 2. Have a great day everyone

ineespenes, wishing you strength through the dark season! We tend to complain here about our lack of sun during November-February, but at least we can see it for a few hours - even if the sky is all greyed out. You have it much more extreme!

I am getting to know my new L'Artisan Parfumeur minis better this week, giving each one a good full wear every day. I absolutely loved yesterday's Ambre Extreme, it was so gorgeous and embracing, spicy at first and then mellowing to sweetness. Today I'm wearing Al Oudh which surprised me when I wore it the first time as I expected it to be the only one of the bunch that I won't like. I was wrong! I might not be a fan of oud, but this is a beautiful perfume. Absolutely unisex, maybe even masculine leaning to my nose - and that's not a bad thing for me - very deep and yet not dirty (well, on me - I've seen various comments on it by different people on internet, it felt very dirty for some). On me it gains some almost chocolate-y aspect that makes it rounder and cosier. Actually, I was very positively surprised by all four minis.

Hello and best to everyone, Creed Vanisia today. It’s much in the same lovely, powdery oriental vein as Shalimar, Emeraude etc, with amber standing in for vanilla. In fact it smells like it could be a contemporary of the other two except for its launch year of 1987.

Kerosene Copper Skies for as drizzly morning. We're headed off to our favorite bottle shop on the coast to get our supply of liquor for the holidays. We're having a couple small intimate luncheons outside to celebrate instead of the usual extended family gatherings. It's OK - current Covid restrictions will make us appreciate next year's holidays even more. Before 2020, we used to take so many things for granted. Like voting.

Hi, all! Ine, ClockworkAlice and everyone else for whom winter darkness is a challenge, I recommend one of the many styles of Happy Light - It simulates sunlight, and a few minutes a day in front of one (I keep mine beside my computer) does help. At least in my experience.

For my SOTD, I’m going with a sample of Parfums MDCI L’Aimee, which doesn’t seem to be in the Directory yet. I’ve described it as a “kitchen sink floral” to a few other BN-Ers, and I’m sticking by that, though after the initial whiff it almost instantly becomes a really beautiful transparent Tuscan flower garden of a fragrance. I really like it!

    Wonderful Wednesday to everyone!

L'Aimee Fragrance Notes: Bergamot, mandarin, blackcurrant, Bulgarian rose, Egyptian jasmine, Indian champaca, lily-of-the-valley, orange flower, heliotrope, orris, raspberry, peach, cedar, vetiver, patchouli, Haitian amyris, oakmoss, sandalwood, benzoin, styrax, tonka, vanilla, amber, ambrette, white musks, castoreum.

Thank you for your suggestion, ComDiva! ...I'm off to google what Happy Light is!
    L'Aimee sounds interesting.

I went wild with my SOTE today, layering Organza + Samsara + Mad Madame. Having in mind that I just drank a big cup of peppery cacao, I myself am an epitome of kitchen sink right now.

There was a brief rain burst this morning and now there is a rainbow . I can see the ocean from my balcony and I was so enchanted yesterday that I briefly started looking up apartments/condos for sale. I realized pretty quickly that for the cost of a permanent second home, I could stay in a luxury hotel or AirBNB two or three times a year and come out ahead financially. Now I understand how people get snookered into timeshares. I'm wearing PG Cuir d'Iris, and on me it's heavy on the cuir and not so much iris. I think I would like it more if it were reversed.

Testing another from La Parfumerie Moderne, "Années Folles". Now, this is more like it, Mr. Corticchiato! An absolutely gorgeous fougere, with an herbal lavender opening, possibly the suavest vetiver heart I've ever smelled, and a not-quite-sweet vanilla-ish/resinous tonka base. All on a very light-textured framework, never getting heavy or too rich. Just beautiful, a fougere that even a woman could wear, but I'd love to smell this on a man.

I thought the name ("Crazy Years") might make it the perfect scent for 2020, but there's nothing crazy about it. It's super-chic.

Thanks, Foxie! I'm getting better. As of today I've been off work for two months, and I really miss it. But I must confess, I'm glad that my illness and CoVid provide the perfect opportunity to skip Thanksgiving cooking and gatherings. The traditional meal is just about my least favorite menu in the whole world.

I had an echocardiogram yesterday, and that was kinda fun, hearing your own heart sloshing around in there like it was in an aquarium.

Still in Mure et Musc Extreme for today.

Cook-Bot, I am glad you got a break, though not glad for the reason. We will Thanksgiving but throw open the doors and windows and move much of it out onto the screen porch. Not sure how we will put the food out, always do buffet but I think like we did for the last gathering, individual forks/spoons instead of serving spoons , one (or one household) at a time. I like turkey, and love potatoes, and also love dressing and especially gravy so I'm down with Thanksgiving food.

Thankful we don't get the very short days here, but not a fan of Standard Time and the earlier sunset.

Wee little Kimchi the cat was fixed today, she is recovering now. They gave us a cone and said to keep her calm. These were incompatible instructions. So she is not coned but is relaxing. Wasp waist from them shaving her abdomen, she looks like a skinny old lady cat right now.

I seem to be enjoying two Gardenia based scents this month, I'm very picky about white florals normally but I have a travel spray of Gardénia Pétale by VC&A that I finally got around to trying this month and I'm loving it so I wore that as my day scent (third wearing this month). My evening scent was Raw Silk & Red Roses by 4160 Tuesdays.

    Hugs to all!

    Evening all,

Big return hugs to everyone. We haven’t had any news, so I guess things haven’t changed much.

Clockworkalice, I LOVE Al Oudh. It seems to be divisive, but I enjoy it—a rich Oriental carpet of spices and incense, richer and more plush than Sahara Noir with its dried fruit notes. Perfect for the season.

CuddleCat, Gardenia Petale is gorgeous! I never think about gardenia in winter but I should.

The BF cracked a filling a few days ago, and then lost half a molar, so he had to make a quick trip to the dentist to have the broken tooth removed. He’s remarkably chipper for just having been to the dentist (I tend to curl into a ball of misery, but I behave the same way about the dentist that my cat acts about going to the vet). Hooray Vicodin!

I wore Molton Brown’s lovely Milk Musk earlier today and almost pulled the trigger on a bottle, until I saw that it costs at least twice as much here in the US as it does in its native Britain, and as far as I know, mail regs still don’t allow perfume to be shipped here from the UK. I don’t need it that badly . . .

SOTE is Ex Nihilo Musc Infini, the kind of outdoorsy green musk that reminds me of Bruno Acampora’s original musks. I see a theme happening here. I just haven’t been in the mood for flamboyant scents.
