    Good morning!
Noir Exquis by L'Artisan Parfumeur today. I love the nutty, chocolaty and coffee-like notes. I like how it is a gourmand, but not sweet at all (well, it's not sweet at all to my nose - I am used to modern perfumes so my tolerance for sweetness and dryness is very different than of people who grew up with chypres!). I am not a fan of a pencil shavings cedar (Iso e super probably? I'm not sure) overdose that shows up later though, so I will not seek for a bigger bottle when my mini is finished - but I like it nevertheless.

Good morning all !. ClockworkAlice, I am exactly the same as you with oud especially if it is overtly medicinal. The one exception is White Aoud by Montale which is wonderful after the challenging top-notes fade. Have you tried Creed Royal Oud ?. If not, I highly recommend doing so

    Good morning.

I am experimenting with layering this week.
Mauboussin with Molinard Vanille edt is my first attempt.
I'll let you know how this pans out.

    Creed - Bois Du Portugal

Jon, no, I haven't tried Royal Oud. I avoid trying Creed fragrances as they're above my budget anyway, and there's something about Creed that makes me feel they're not for me (illogical, I know), and at least the feminine ones seem to be mostly florals and that's not what interests me the most. Some of the Creeds (not the most famous ones) are almost constantly discounted here in the boutiques though and that makes them more affordable, but still pricy. But I think I'll try that one when I'm there just because of your suggestion - and the Virgin Island Water, because teardrop and N.Cal likes it a lot and that most probably means it's good.
As for oud... I don't dislike the medicinal one, I dislike the dirty one, and when it feels like some black noise to my nose - something very thick, sticky and overwhelming, I don't know how else to describe it. But I might grow into it or find more scents where I like it, who knows. Maybe I'll like the Creed Royal Oud and will curse myself for trying it, who knows.

, I like layering, too. Sometimes, when I'm in a mood! I believe Vanille should layer nicely with lots of things. I'll be waiting for your verdict.

My Shalimar Souffle Intense by Guerlain arrived, so I'm wearing it now. <3

Jon, the solitary "bois" in that photo looks like it's having a hard time surviving in Portugal.

Finally some actual cold here. Had our first freeze last night, which means it's time to buy and cook some collard greens -- they're always best after they get a touch of frost.

And the cold always makes me crave dirty spices, so: original Declaration EDT by Cartier, possibly my favorite thing J.C. Ellena ever did.

    Prima T Extrait (Acampora)

I keep forgetting how much I love this... in lockdown for the umpteenth week here in Dublin...

Prima T is such a perfect perfumey perfume that it lifts me out of my north facing gloom and reminds me that life is still full of possibilities... I have the oil as well (which I got first and normally favoured back in the old days when we could go out among crowds of people) but the spray is perfect for lockdown as I can fill the air with gorgeousness...

Have I ever mentioned how much I love this stuff?

You should sample Xerjoff Zafar purely for the shock value. Think horse manure and stilton cheese - undoubtedly one of the most horrific things I have ever smelled. I will never forget ComDiva's face when she tried it with me in London

    Muahahahahahaha!
Well, my grandfather had a farm and I spent a good portion of my childhood there, the scent alone shouldn't shock me... But I am prone to gagging just while cleaning a fridge or my kitty's litter box... I wonder how that goes!

    Edit:
From gimmegreen's wonderful (and positive!) review:

With its mix of diarrhoeal emanations and burnt rubber at the top Zafar exerts a car crash fascination that had me craning my neck to see more. So, the very first time I tried it, I had to go back within minutes and give myself a few more sprays after having initially settled for three.
Let’s be clear: I’m not inclined to masochism <...>
There is mould and rot at its heart, but of the most enticing kind – a death wish granted were it not for the fact that it makes one feel thrillingly alive.

I strongly second this suggestion. It's not really oudy - just simply sublime!
