Dior is my favorite house and will always be, based on the merits of the vintage perfumes.
Pour moi, aussi. It was a grand old time.

They lost me after Poison, but even Poison holds a place in my heart because I had so much fun wearing it in the 1980’s.
I was wondering if anybody would have the cojones to wear original Poison for today's sync. I'll be there's still a lot of bottles of it floating around out there.

So much Diorissimo in here today that I may have to take a benadryl. But despite it being unwearable for me, I do understand all the adoration, and 'tis certainly the season for it.

    Last week catch up:

I love a big floral, especially a big rose. Went for L'Arte di Gucci (EdP) during the day and a few dabs of Amouage Rose TRO at night.

    This week:

Dior, one of my favorite houses. According to my wardrobe which is mostly up to date, I have 14 bottles and 23 samples (most are decants, many vintagey from Cooks and Bavard, a few are the 7.5ml Privee minis). I am overloaded along with Redneck. BTW Red, love the Kouros of Patchouli for Patchouli Impérial - it really is intensely clean/polished and dirt-y/earthy patch all at once. I have a mini of that somewhere. Plus a 5ml decant back from when mountainbikesandwatches was splitting here.

Slept into synch with Mitzah last night, my 3rd most worn scent overall according to my SOTD stats. That sounds right. It's truly lovely stuff and tuned perfectly to what I enjoy in a spiced resinous scent.

Threw on some Fahrenheit this morning. If it warms up enough today, I'll wear Vétiver later on. This is our first spring in the new house and it turns out our little misshapen driveway circle garden thingy is loaded with lily-of-the-valley and it is just starting to bloom. If I can find it in my post-move disarray, might spritz a little Diorella to honor their plant highness.

Diorella would be your first stop for a peach-jasmine-patchouli combo, no doubt, but for a big punch of lily-of-the-valley, today's Diorissimo sync might be your best bet.

Pro tip for making a lost weekend of it: on the Dior YouTube channel, you can do a search for perfume, and then click the button on each thumbnail that comes up to "add to queue, add to queue, add to queue."

Seeing lots of Diorissimo this week, which makes me want to get my hands on a vintage sample. Looking through my collection, I have 9 Dior samples and 2 minis (Poison and Hypnotic Poison, because I love them both and the 1oz minis are adorable and will last me *forever*).

I'll wear Hypnotic Poison tonight, but it's a gray, overcast and mild spring day here in Maryland and I think my vintage sample of Diorella is perfect for today.

I also just realized that I recently spritzed a bit of Poison on the denim jacket I was planning to wear tonight so I may not be able to go with Hypnotic Poison tonight after all. That would be...a lot.

    By request: Dior-Dior.

Opens with a blast of controlled chaos, a bit like being whacked on the nose with a well-stuffed leather pomander. It then settles down into a toasted fruit tart chypre, the fruit thankfully unsweetened so that it's natural flavor is unmasked and doesn't trample the mossy amber base—sort of like a minimalist (or perhaps cubist) reconstruction of Mitsouko.

    Roudnitska wasn't f---ing around.

Ah, indeed! I knew one of them was the "lily-of-the-valley vintage Dior" but for the past few years, in my head, that title went to Diorella. Consulting my own review on Diorissimo, it is the LotV one. Not that your Dior expertise requires secondary consultation. I'm going to put actual effort into finding the Cook decant because I just sniffed the LotV in the yard and they smell amazing.

Agree with Redneck Perfumisto if the day is sunny then fruitties Dior-Dior, Diorella, Dolce Vita.

I wanted to like Fahrenheit 32 because of the vanilla note, unfortunately it came off as something that I wasn't expecting. Didn't feel like a vanilla fragrance at all. That was 8 years ago.

Ah! Vanilla - yeah, that's a bit unexpected!

Felt regret scrubbing Bois d'Argent - it's good stuff.

    Moving on to Mitzah now!

    Edit:

Ooooh! Mitzah is a good one! And my wife gave it a thumbs up. "Good, but too strong." LOL.

    Edit Again:

Damn, this is good. Why the hell did I not buy this???!!!

Now wearing the pink girly juice Milly-La-Forêt and finding it very surprising. There is a spicy aspect to the florals which took me a moment to understand - it's not merely the spicy facets of orange blossom, but also the sandalwood. That woody accord is exceptionally well done. Good on both paper and skin, this is a great scent. I will test on my wife later!

And another great history of House Dior!

    https://perfumesociety.org/perfume-house/dior/

I was looking for the inspiration for the name.

DiorLa Collection Privée is the ultimate expression of this perfumer’s talents. ‘Rare ingredients, daring olfactory statements and creation that knows no bounds,’ is how Demachy sums it up. ‘This collection reflects the freedom that only true luxury can provide.’ Demachy himself choose and selects ingredients from around the world: Arabian jasmine, Tuscan iris, tuberose, patchouli, neroli, Calabrian bergamot. These handcrafted fragrances for women (and men) include Milly-la-Forêt (it was Dior’s romantic countryside retreat), exquisite Grand Bal – ‘an echo of one of Christian Dior’s great ball gowns, whose full skirts and beauty evoked the petals of a flower in full bloom’, explains Demachy – and Granville, named for Dior’s childhood home in Normandy, ‘the scent of fresh pine, whipping in the wind…’

I'm wearing Dior-Dior right now(and for the first time), I'm not quite getting Mitsouko. There's a little bit of the Mitsouko peach/aldehyde but not as pronounced. It's a bit more floral heavy mixed with some woods. I'll see how it develops.

I had hoped my references to minimalism and cubism would have dispelled any expectations of a literal similarity. Rather, I meant I imagined Roudnitska had fixed on a few key elements of Mitsouko and set about deploying them to dissimilar effect.
