    This is difficult.

For house, I'm going to go with Floris, which sits nicely in the "traditional aesthetics, but well-nuanced perfume" category I enjoy so well. With stuff like 1962, Leather Oud, Neroli Voyage, and Santal, I could be quite happy.

For perfumer, I'm going with Nathalie Feisthauer (which allows me to continue to enjoy my beloved Aramis Havana and Hermès Eau des Merveilles).

There are fine choices in here and Dominique Ropion is one of them. I can easily respect someone picking Jean Claude-Ellena too. This whole idea of picking only one, or even a few, perfumers just seems to be counter-productive to the hobby. I have to say that it seems men have a natural pull to rank and establish a pecking order, but there are many perfumers who make some extraordinary fragrances.

Interesting responses so far! Although I think I might’ve been a bit unclear and sent some people on a more restrictive path: what I meant was to choose one house and one perfumer independently of one another, although it looks like some people have narrowed it down to one perfumer AT one house alone. That’s waaaaay too whittled down for me, but still a fun challenge.

I think I’ve decided on my own choices now; most of my collection seems to exist at two different poles: one herbal, grassy, vetiver-dominant, characterized best by something like Declaration, and another leathery, dark, rich, full of oud and spices, maybe some fruity notes a la Tuscan Leather or the mandarin in Black Aoud. So for the former, I’d choose JCE as perfumer, who best exemplifies that style (and takes up a lot of space in my collection), and Montale, which is what I always turn to for big huge leather and oud creations.

I will note though that my two choices have some minor points of intersection, such as Rose et Cuir from JCE and Greyland from Montale, so I think they give me the best of both worlds, with a few interesting variations on similar themes.

And one last note: as far as I’m concerned, vintages are fair game and you are more than welcome to use a time machine in order to achieve your perfect combo. More interested in seeing what styles people like and how they are distributed among houses and perfumers than some kind of pecker-order ultimate challenge that tspencer references (which is what I’m trying to avoid).

Nice answer. And I am sure in a hundred years floris will still look and smell exactly the same when you walk in their London store. There is something to be said for a tradition that strong.

That's a very easy Louis Vuitton and Belletrud, since he is the only one there. I imagine him locked up in the LV dungeon in Grasse, forced to create one perfume after the other.

If you asked me that question a few months ago it would have been Dior but since Dior Homme 2020 debacle I'm going with ELDO as the house and Olivier Polge as the nose.
