You must choose: one house and one perfumer

I don’t know about everybody else but I can never narrow down my preferences when it comes to threads about choosing a single house as your “desert island” favorite. There are some that come close for me - CdG and Hermès are top of mind - but there are so many things I have to leave out. Likewise, I could *almost* subsist on JCE alone, but then there are so many lush, complex, full-bodied fragrances I’d have to abandon.

But what if you could choose one of each? What would your choices be and why? Hopefully none of us ever find ourselves on a desert island with nothing but fragrances for subsistence, but I for one would feel much better if I could at least have the perfumer and house combo.

Hey, it’s your desert island! That would still give you a much better reach than just the house. I’m almost tempted to say I’d choose JCE and Hermès, but I’m not a big enough fan of Hermes’ vintage/traditional style fragrances.

For perfumers, I'd say Germaine Cellier-except that most of her stuff has been reformulated, so it probably doesn't count.

For houses, I tend to like a lot of what Etat Libre d'Orange does.

They never worked together but boy do I wish they did. If I had to pick between house and perfumer, I’d go perfumer (Or Black, Fahrenheit, Bel Ami, Opium). Stacks on stacks on stacks.

Originally I was thinking forget the house and just give me Betrand Duchaufour. Even though he created a fragrance that was one of my most horrid experiences (Skin on Skin), he’s created some of my all-time drop dead gorgeous LOVES (Amouage Dia Man, Jubilation XXV). His nose is golden, most of the time.

But then as I think about it more, I’ll take Roja Dove for house and nose. Besides creating great stuff, like Puredistance M, he could always just recreate a beautiful version of other all time favorites of mine.

Either of those directions I’m happy. If they can’t happen, I suppose I’d choose JCE.

The time machine answer: Edmond Roudnistska and Dior, if I could have the scents in their original formats.

Perfumer - this is a hard one, but at the moment I’m leaning towards James Heeley, but it could change from day to day. I currently feel Heeley would give me access to a nicely balanced collection in my preferred style.
