Thumbs up Re: SOTD: Saturday, 16th January, 2021

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

Good morning all !. Woke to a covering of snow which has already turned to rain and now slush . Being entertained today by a soiltary fieldfare which has joined the other birds plundering the remaining apples in the garden.

No sign of snow here. After a night of heavy rain, the day started off dark & dreary, but the sun has come out!

Count me in as another bird lover, Jon and Dora.

I have just been testing two Byredo samples :
    Gypsy Water and Mojave Ghost.
The Mojave Ghost is pretty subtle and reminded me ever so slightly of
Ferre by Gianfranco Ferre. Perfectly nice but not full-bottle worthy for me.

The Gypsy Water had me totally confused as it didn't smell anything
like its listed notes. What I got was ripe, almost rotting fruit and particularly mango.
It is so similar to Molinard's Nirmala that I think they must have sent me
a sample of Pulp by mistake.

I will ask them but doubt we will ever know.
I do rather like Pulp/Gypsy Water (whatever it is) but have Nirmala to scratch that
    particular itch.

Hello everyone Tomorrow is the actual date of my birthday, but we are celebrating in low key-style today. The pubs/restaurant shere are not allowed to serve alcohol these days, so we decided to stay home cooking instead. The bf is making Bouillabaise and I requested cheesecake for dessert I invited 3 people (we are allowed that), but I guess it was a too short notice Tomorrow I will meet my sister for lunch. Sotd is Santal majuscule. Have a great day everyone

I've actually solved the riddle myself and it was my own fault!
I thought I'd ordered sample of Gypsy Water but I'd actually
asked for Bal d'Afrique. That's why I got the ripe fruity notes.

Ah, Jon, we are weather twins a pond apart. Rain mixed with snow mixed with rain here in Cleveland, tho last night I saw stars for the first time in weeks, Orion dominating the southern sky, as I walked home from a necessary pharmacy run.

Trying to decide whether Imaginary Authors is a triumph of form over substance. The Short Stories collection is beguilingly packaged, and the scents offbeat. I went online with each sampling for the storyline, which was fun, and leads me to think that a good idea would be to enclose a leaflet with those stories. Beyond that, the notes are a little sledgehammer-y, and disconnected. I don't get a unifying undertone. OK, call them "edgy."

Anyway this morning before I venture out for a chilly walk along Cleveland's industrial valley, I am donning A City on Fire*, femmed up with half a spritz of Tea Rose (what else is Tea Rose for, I ask you?)

    love to all.

    juliana

    * of course I am! I will be walking along the river that caught fire around 1969 (you could look it up. . . )

Or you could listen to the song that Randy Newman wrote about it: 'Burn On, Big River'.

Many happy returns to Ine! Bouillabaise and cheesecake sounds like a nearly perfect meal to me.

Windy, grey, and very cold here. I've decided to stop fighting the gloom with cozy scents and instead to enlist some garrigues in pretending I'm in a dry, green Mediterranean landscape.

Count me in the birdwatchers group! I was just in the sunroom, popping out for the third time today to see no birds at the feeders. I figured there was a hawk in the area. All of the sudden, 12 different species showed up almost on cue. All of the regular gang. They were hungry after their morning of hiding!

Trying Nina Ricci Premier Jour today. It’s very pretty, but Allure is superior for this sort of thing.

A nice casual, slow Saturday. I'm loving it.

This morning I wore Royk by Madhat - it was nice and cold and this stuff smells so good in this weather. After Cross Fit I showered and went to Wynwood area and got to test this one:

Radish X Vetiver by Comme des Garcons: Clash

p.s. - Dad is feeling much better and is recovering normally and Mom has no symptoms so ((fingers crossed))
