Default Recommendations for a vanilla & ambergris

I've been wanting a vanilla and ambergris fragrance for a bit now. Ive been doing some research but nothing has jumped out at me.

I'm looking for something that dries down into a predominately vanilla and ambergris base, leans masculine, and isn't dense. I want both of those notes to be at the forefront after the dry down. Designer or niche is fine, although I don't want anything super synthetic. Hopefully <$200

I've tried that one before and didn't care for it. Also not sure if that one has ambergris or not??? I'm looking for less amber, and more straight vanilla.

Maybe looking along the lines of if Creed did a Vanilla in the millesime line.

    Micallef Avant Garde perhaps?

I find this very dense but I believe some may disagree, so give it a go: there's 'more' than just vanilla and ambergris, but they are prominent.

This has actually been on my try list for a while, but not for these notes. That would be an added bonus. I'll have to sample this one soon.

Maybe also Ambre Sultan to a certain extent- more so by Lutens, a house that easily masters both amber and vanillic notes

After a few moments thought, a dusty amber might just be as close as you'll get to something that fits that bill for a long, drawn-out dry down.
I see you have Amber Sultan, I'd second that.
    I'm wearing Oud27 now, I'd suggest that.
Tauer's L'Air D'Morocain (you know the thing... Moroccan Desert!)
Memoirs of a Tresspasser - Imaginary Authors
I'd get my nose on anything that a review or two might describe as 'parchment' or 'old dusty book'... (but that's me)

Vanilla and ambergris are literally the two most prominent notes.

Tiziana Terenzi Dionisio has that combination as well, but is probably too dense.

Maybe Issey Miyake Noir Ambré is worth a try too.

It's marketed like "When the power of water meets the richness of the Orient."

Re: (ambre precieux) I've tried this one and didnt care for it. Looking more towards vanilla as well.

Re: (ambre sultan) it's more of a dense amber. I do enjoy it though.

Soleil de Jeddah by Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777 Is technically a leather fragrance but has good vanilla and ambergris notes. It’s fantastic.
FYI: I spray all fragrances on clothing, never on skin.

To clarify, are you looking for amber, or ambergris? They're two totally different things with totally different smells.

Amber is an accord made from labdanum, benzoin, vanilla, etc. Amber is an oriental note, heavy and sweet. Ambre Nuit, Ambre 114, Ambre Sultan, Ambre Prexious, etc.

Ambergris is whale vomit, literally. It has a smell that's salty, a bit sweet, sort of a little musky. Ambergris is a marine note and can be kind of sporty (Creed's Millesime Imperial, for example, or Erolfa), but it dresses up well too (Green Irish Tweed).

I almost cringe as I say this, due to the awful name, but have you tried "The Sexiest Scent on the Planet. Ever. IMHO" by 4160 Tuesdays? It's basically a synthetic ambergris, Iso E Super and vanilla with maybe a bit of citrus. It's an odd scent in that it's basically just a base, but a long lasting one. It's the sort of scent that if you like it, you'll probably LOVE it, and it would work fantastically for wearing on a date, because it's cozy.

Yeah, I've been on an ambergris kick for a little while. I'm going to look that one up. Honestly, I'm interested in a vanilla/ambergris base so that might fit the bill. Definitely interested.

My only complaint about it is that they used cedramber instead of ambroxan to create the ambergris note (let's be honest, 99.9999% of all fragrances that list ambergris use synthetics). Of the two, I prefer ambroxan, which if I'm not mistaken is smoother & sweeter (or maybe it's just that ambroxan wears particularly well on my skin?). OH, and speaking of which... have you tried Molecule 02? That's literally just ambroxan diluted to perfume strength.

An impressive recommendation for your first post! These two are what I would have recommended too!

E&B is more versatile, a bit a lighter wear compared to Dionisio, which is indeed more opulent (but maaaannn..... what a fragrance!!)
