Evening all.

We just arrived at the country house. It was dark, our navigation malfunctioned, and we didn’t notice until we realized we were driving into Abeliene (which is way out west of us). Then, the BF’s phone navigation tried to send us back there three times despite our resetting it, ensuring that the home address was correct, and restarting everything, phone and app, twice. It is the factory Apple Maps app, no idea what it was about. I finally switched us to Waze, and it took A 2:30 hour trip has turned into 6 hours.

I’m now bumping Yaz so loud in the parking lot that people are staring.

We also learned that we have a new neighborhood nickname. The very nice yuppie couple who moved in recently call us “Sprockets.” Rock on.

Two more blocks and we are home. I am curling up there with a beer and the bf and Vol de Nuit parfum.

At first I thought this sync would elude me, then this showed up in the mail. I had been to the ELdO store on Rue des Archives in 2015 and got the whole sampling presentation, went home with Rien. I have wanted to sample and re-sample ELdO since then. Today I picked out a post-2015 for SOTD, and it is You or Something Like You. In short, nostalgic as in a I went-thru-my-hippie-phase: straight-ahead flower child with some citrus and herbs. I probably have a flowy gauze dress somewhere to go with this.

Hi, everyone!

In sync (albeit from a number of years ago) with one of my desert island scents that comes with a great story -

I somehow managed to test Robert Piguet Knightbridge, probably via TPC, and fell head over heels for it. After saving up for more than a year, I was ready to take the plunge, but when I emailed Harrod's, they informed me they did not ship across the pond. I grumbled about this rather extensively here on Basenotes, and a couple of months later, received a package from one of our lovely crew, who'd gone to England and had a meet-up with *another* lovely BN-er, and they managed to get me a bottle of Knightsbridge, hand-carry it back to the states, and mail it to me! I still remember the day it arrived completely out of the blue and continue to be grateful . And Knightsbridge remains one of my favorites.



I have a couple of fragrances on my long-time Wishlist that I just might acquire this year, but not yet. Maybe we can repeat this Sync theme for 2022?

Ohhhh, Ebenas, you smell WONDERFUL! I missed out on Onda, dithering about with samples, and then it was too late. Vero Kern's death was such a loss to the perfume world.

I am also in synch today, with my beloved Serge Lutens Boxeuses. This had been on my wish list since 2011, and I could never justify buying a full bottle bell jar. Then I got my first bell jar about a year, maybe 18 months ago (Douce Amere) and asked myself why I kept waiting. As it turned out, I was waiting for the unexpected 25% off sale at the SL online store for Black Friday, and I finally, after nearly a decade, grabbed my bell jar of this beauty.

It's anyone's guess what the notes actually are, but what I smell are woods of some kind (probably cedar, since it's Serge), leather, plum, and something like anise and maybe birch tar. People with far better noses than mine also report castoreum, labdanum, and some florals, but I can't detect those. Don't much care, either. I adore this one.

I finally decided on synching in Portrait of a lady. I loved this the first time I had the chance to test it, but never got around to buy a bottle /could not afford it. I went to Barcelona with my bf after a nasty few months with Cortisonpills and gaining weight. When I saw this in a shop next to our hotel I decided to just go for it I wear this not nearly often enough, but enjoy when I do. It's a beautiful and BIG perfume

ExtremeK, thanks for the furniture recommendations, so many pretty things. When I get serious I'll take some measurements to see what might fit. I also may go and test drive a used 500e this weekend, I've never driven an electric car and I'm wondering how the experience is different than gasoline-powered.

Happy Birthday and BN anniversaries to those I missed when I checked out for a while. My dog died last week and I have been sad. But I am feeling better now. I'm wearing Bois des Iles parfum on a cold and sunny day. Rain returns Sunday so I will go out and enjoy this while I can.
