If you had the choice to sample or smell the original formulation of any fragrance, which would you choose?

For me personally, it would be a toss up between:

1. Green Irish Tweed

2. Dior Fahrenheit (which might still be possible as this isn't TOO old)

I'd be going far back if I had the choice.

Start with some of the original 'colognes', then further back in to the middle ages and whatever passed as perfume then, and then waaaaaay back to antiquity and the ancient civilisations' use of fragrant materials like incense, ambergris, labdanum etc.

With the best will in the world, Aventus is Aventus. I'd want to experience something that we truly have limited reference to in the present day.

I would not be surprised if Eau d'Hermes now is similar to the vintage. Jean Claude Ellena's mentor was Roudnitska, and he has said in interviews he believes Eau d'Hermes is his greatest work. I doubt that Ellena would wreck the formula, or feel he has the right to change it. Ellena's playing around with Eau was Declaration. I personally find the copper cap version to be dead on with the current, and so would not be surprised if the pewter caps were also. Just my take I know how other people feel about the formulations I think they're wrong.
