I do get a bit of sweetness underneath and not sure if that develops more.

If you can get a sample, it's definitely worth a try!
That sounds like another buy to me! Sounds like what I may want! All the suggestions are great!

How about Eau des Baux by L'Occitane? Very popular scent, and very cypress-heavy ("a sensual union of cypress and incense is at the center of composition" according to L'Occitane)

Very well regarded fragrance around here, as it punches well above its weight class as far as its composition and performance.

It's not perfect by any means, but I've yet to find a better use of cypress, in a better setting/idea, than Gucci Rush.

My favorite fragrance with prominent (to my nose anyways) cypress is Bois Marocain by Tom Ford. Close second would be Roja Reckless Pour Homme.

They're having a 50% off sale which includes Bonsai, so wanted to pass that along. The code is LATEWINTER.

Floris 1962 is a good option (even if not my favourite). For cypress, without any hesitation:

    Nishane - B612

Other interesting dry cypress and/or pine and/or fir ones:

Tom Ford - Bois Marocain (and its great clone Just jack - Moroccan Green)
    CdG - Hinoki
    CdG - Zagorsk
    Dunhill - Edition
    Montana - Parfum d'Homme
    ELdO - Eloge du Traitre
    Caron - Yatagan
    Bottega Veneta - Pour Homme
    M.Micallef - Royal Vintage

Other interesting cypress and/or pine and/or fir ones with some sweetness:

    Diptyque - L'Eau Trois
    Goutal - Encens Flamboyant
    Terenzi - Ecstasy
    Loewe - Essencia

Aesop HWYL is probably the best cypress fragrance I've tried to date. Best representation of cypress in a fragrance.

Many describe it as a softer, more serene/elegant, less camphorous take on CdG Hinoki, something that sounds right up my alley! I'm looking forward to try in store, as soon as covid permits.

Actually this is great, I forgot about it. Argh...I only had a tiny 0.7ml sample and I couldn't find a bigger one, but this reminds me - I might just have to seek out a larger sample. It smelled like a modernised version of Gucci Rush to me, a nice blending of woods and incense. Good suggestion.
