I do have a 2ml sample of this. I knew there was a popular one I was missing. I need to revisit.

I know a lot of people express how animalic t-rex is. I don't remember that but I do remember the smoke. Into the sample bin I go!

Bvlgari Black and Le Labo Patchouli 24 are different sides of the same Annick Menardo coin. Save yourself some money and go for the former as I find them very similar especially as they progress but I really should try them side-by-side.

Then of course there are the CDG incense heavy fragrances such as the incense range and of course Black:

The best example of woodsmoke I've ever smelled is in the drydown of Rasasi Dhanal Oudh Nashwah

It's a spicy oud fragrance blended with honey and leather but has a strong woodsmoke smell smouldering underneath, like the smell left on clothing after being stood next to a bonfire. Wonderful stuff for smoke fans...!

Kerosene Blackmail is a nice sweet/oriental type smokey fragrance.

But for realism, 100% Bois d'Ascese is one of the best I've come across.

Bois d’Ascese is my personal favorite smoky perfume. It has a crisp fall air, burning leaves off in the distance, small campfire vibe. Hyde by Hiram Green is also a nice one.

I don't actually find it particularly animalic - smells just like a forest fire to me.

Some very good ones have already been listed so I will add some others I use.

Elixir Attars Kalevala is very good if one is open to an attar.
Here is what Elixir says about it (and they are probably spot on in my opinion):
"When you are in the heart of Finland's forests during Juhannus and the folkloric singers start singing the Kalevala, you are surrounded by the scents of fire, smoke, pine, leather, and berries. We sought to capture that experience in a bottle."

Meleg Perfumes Birch Tar and Russian Leather No 25.
From a quirky indie maker on the west coast of Canada. A strong performer containing birch tar, cedar wood, smoke, vanilla, smoky perfume, leather accord, benzoin, vanilla absolute, peru balsam, birch essential oil, animal musks, tobacco absolute, natural castoreum musk.

Incense Oud by Kilian (above) is a good suggestion. If you want an extra kick along that theme Black Oud by Kilian is much better on the oud side of the mix. It is currently my most worn scent.

French Cuffs from Pink Mahogany. Sweet, dry creosote campfire smoke, very Southwest camping vibe.

“I have often observed that [scents] cause an alteration in me and work upon my spirits according to their several virtues; which makes me approve of what is said, that the use of incense and perfumes in churches, so ancient and so universally received in all nations and religions, was intended to cheer us, and to rouse and purify the senses, the better to fit us for contemplation” - Montaigne

Interested in the recommendations. I like smoke, but dislike the bbq aspects; so that takes out City on Fire for me, for example.

Are you looking for incense smoke as well? 'Cause that opens up a complete other side of the genre.

I don’t understand. It is so vast that surpasses all understanding.Understanding is always limited. But not understanding can have no boundaries.I feel like I'm much more complete when I don't understand. Not understanding, like I say,is a gift. Not understanding, but not as a simple-minded.The good thing is to be intelligent and not understand. It's a strange blessing, like having craziness without being crazy. It is a meek disinterest,it is a stupid sweetness.

This is what I came in here to say. I *love* smokey fragrances and this is one of my favs (have been wearing it for the past two days!). Broken Theories is another excellent campfire smoke scent, also by Kerosene.

I wanted to love Hyde so badly but on my skin, there was a really off-putting barbequed meat vibe that was not entirely pleasant. It (mostly) goes away in the drydown, the problem is, it takes a day and a half to get to that point

I also really wanted to like Patchouli 24 but there was a weird smell, almost of something electric burning that was nauseating to me. So try before you buy.
