Default Regrets Over Fragrances Sold, Traded or Discarded

I am still working on thinning down my fragrance collection, but I do regret having shed the following:

    Yardley Gentleman

    Potpourri by SMN

    Equipage

The first is long discontinued and although the scent was somewhat "strange" I would love it now that I am more strange myself.

The second was...I don't know a bad trade and I don't intend to spend the money again, but on various days wish it were here.

The third was a gift that at the time I didn't fully appreciate, especially now when the fragrance that pretends to be Equipage is nowhere near the prior iteration.

Regrets I’ve had a few but then again too few to mention

Nothing that I sold. Apparently if I held on to a bottle of Pure Tonka for 6 more months, I would have made 3x as much, but who cares.

I regret more the bottles I missed out on tbh, although, again, there aren't too many that apply there: perhaps a few bottles of Michael by Michael Kors that went cheaply, that's about it.

Annick Goutal - Ninfeo Mio women's bottle, which ‎looks better than men's bottle.

Have you noticed that it shares the big sprayer and the cap (with some minor differences) with the old Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier bottles, the red ones?

Only sold off about 3 bottles. Two were no-brainers for me. But for some reason I sold a small (30ml if I recall) bottle of PdN New York. I very much regret that.

Never sold/traded anything. If I were into vintages or very limited-run niche/artisanal frags I could see doing that more, since those kind of bottles are a currency that passes more between individuals due to scarcity, etc. But to me trading things that are still in production doesn't have much appeal. I'd rather just keep what I have and buy more. If I really dislike something I'll give it away. If it's just mediocre I see no harm in keeping it and returning to it every once in a while.

I've learned to hold onto frags even if I'm no longer interested in them atm. Quite often, I'll come around to enjoying them again. Often a different facet or perception will open up as well after not wearing them for a spell. I still keep a pretty minimal wardrobe though of around 12-15 frags.

I've sold many bottles but not one time did I regret it. It's part of the process I guess. I've even discarded some cheapies in the trash cause I didn't feel like selling them. I can imagine people who have hundreds of bottles go through this ''selling or trashing'' phase from time to time.

That might change things - I could see trying to “trade up” some cheapies for one nicer bottle in order to reduce collection size. I’ll be moving back to California post-COVID with about forty bottles more than my last move haha so we’ll see how that goes.

Having sold, traded and/or discarded few to almost no scents so far and especially not the scent lineup's abridged version/dream team of long term personal favorites (unless there were too many backups of these) have so far no regrets about this aspect of fragrance ownership.

So far I have a tough time letting go of any fragrances. Even Bentley Intense, but then again I would've sold it had it been more expensive. I only kept it because it's cheap and 'maybe' I might wear it again or have a reason to give it to someone someday as a gift who is a cool person who says they love the stuff. The only fragrance I remember selling back in 2018 was Charriol - Royal White. I didn't couldn't get into it and lost about $5 on it after only one use. That's when I decided to sample everything first and not blind buy except really cheap frags under $35.

Lol, I do it all the time, I have sold and re-purchase the same frag several times, but at the end, I know I have to let it go, and trust my decision to sell it the first time.

Well, I can't say I "regret" it because I did it, but I'm certainly going to miss two I just sold because I have no more of either one of them...

Creed Windsor (2009) and Selection Verte. Both of them completely fantastic, IMO.
