Default 2021: Creed buys the pot... all in or fold?

This morning, I received an email from Nose (a famous bricks n mortar niche perfumery in Paris, co-owned by Mark Buxton, that only sells at full retail price), stating:

"As of 4/01, the house of Creed will increase its pricing, for example:
    - Aventus will go from EUR 210 to EUR 250
    - SMW will go from EUR 165 to EUR 200
    - GIT will go from EUR 165 to EUR 200"
    (all prices for 100ml bottles)

That's a one-shot ~20% increase!! Price increase in the US is logically expected in the same proportion...

Although I identified a few bottles I liked, I folded a long time ago with Creed, as I haven't found a single Creed bottle that was worth the current prices for my standards.
What are you guys going to do? Keep going forward with them, or decline to become/keep being a cash cow?

No one wants price increases, but it's inevitable. They're not the first and they won't be the last. If a fragrance is good from the house, I will still purchase it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If I buy further Creeds (which I intend to do - SMW, BdP, maybe Viking) I will get vintages/older batches, which was my original plan anyways. If I drop this kind of money, I really don‘t want to gamble with current batches/formulations.

If they practice more quality control with the distribution of their products like Chanel, they wouldn't have to keep increasing their prices.

I guess during a pandemic when everyone is bored sitting at home and not spending money on normal outings, it’s a pretty safe bet to increase prices and assume the legions of frag bros watching YouTube will just eat the price jump - it might even make them feel more special having spent so much money. I’ll keep buying decants or secondhand bottles of the few I like (Royal Oud, Royal Mayfair, maybe BdP) but still a hard no on the MSRP.

    Nothing changes.

If you could afford Creed when they were 160 Euros you can afford them at 200 Euros.

If you were buying them when you couldn't afford them, then any price increase will just reinforce the bad life decisions you're trying to ignore when you were buying Creed fragrances for 160 Euros. That's the real problem.

There's very little difference between spending 160 Euros and 200 Euros on a beauty product. The demographic that could afford Creed previously can still afford them. The price isn't an issue. In fact the extra exclusivity may well be welcome for them.

I got this email from Nose and planning on buying 3-4 bottles of my faves not just to beat the price increase but also to hedge against the potential for bad reformulations that could occur in the near future. Just bought Himalaya which was great from the first spray.

Personally, this comes across as a desperate grab at maintaining lux relevancy. Since 2010, there have been so many lux brands that are doing things better where people are getting more bang from their buck that, in some cases, those who can't keep up in terms of quality try to reinforce the façade by raising prices even higher. We've seen the tricks: repackage in 100ml and charge nearly the same as before or more. We've smelled the difference: batch variations continue to be an issue. There are some Creeds I love and will probably always have a bottle of, but honestly, there are just too many other companies out there producing higher quality scents with better longevity and better packaging (if that matters) for better prices that are worth paying retail for.

    These are the discounted prices.

    - Creed sells 100ml of Millesime Imperial for £245 (285 Euros)

    - Nose Paris sells 100ml of MI for £135 (156 Euros)

Nose has giving us their price increases for Creed fragrance, not Creed's price increase.

Except for GIT, BDP & RO which I own, all the other current offerings don't do anything for me. I would never pay full retail for Creed in the first place.

As long as the quality continues it will be a win win, time will tell hopefully they are planning successful things for Creed one can only hope.

Might go for a few favorites almost irrespective of the price-but with the disclaimer of having likely enjoyed these just as much even if they would have not been by Creed and/or associated with the hype still going strong about this house

Nose has giving us their price increases for Creed fragrance, not Creed's price increase.
To be fair to Nose they are one of the few EU businesses that have made the effort to adhere to the Brexit bullshit and actually do the whole collecting VAT on behalf of HMRC and continue to supply to UK customers. I bought Himalaya last week and received this week with no hassle. Same price as before but a 5eur Brexit surcharge which is more than fair. I could see on the dispatch note that shipping was around 15eur which they include for free so that’s eating into their margin as that’s a lot more than pre Brexit. Plus 3 samples which include Creed exclusives so they are hurting profit wise. I think this price increase is from Creed though and not just from Nose. Perhaps the increase is not in UK stores as we are well above France prices but they are trying to make world wide prices the same just like most other luxury brands do. Sorry for the lack of paragraphs!

If anything, Nose's statement implies that it's a move from the house, not the retailer itself (noting that Nose is a perfume retailer co-owned by Mark Buxton, a major figure in the industry). If you have any reliable source that contradicts that statement, you are very welcome to share it here in a constructive manner.

You contradict a poster (in this case, me, the OP) with whom you have previous 'history' (like with many others - let's speak truth), only based on your very personal interpretation of the sourced information provided, without providing any other solid information. This makes your intent to depict my post as unreliable and to generate an (umpteenth) fight very clear. Feel free to do so with other Basenoters as long as they tolerate that mindset, but please refrain from commenting on my posts (as instructed several times by the mods), even just indirectly/suggestively without citing my posts (in compliance with anti-provocation forum rules) - especially within one of the rare threads I started.

I have enough of my favorites (Aventus, RO, VIW, GIT) to last a lifetime and all before the recent reformulations. I doubt I'll purchase Creed again.
