Started the day with the Rochas Lumiere 2017 and ended it with Rochas Lumiere original formula. Super surprised to find the original formula much softer than the reformulation. I love both.

It's a pity that most women would never even try this due to its name, because it's a truly lovely unisex citrus.

My wife is extremely tempted by this fragrance. She WANTS to wear it, but she is sadly trapped by gender labeling, even when she declares with certainty that a fragrance is the opposite of what's on the label. She thinks it's unisex, but.........she can't do it.

And you're right - there is so much cologne character, that it feels like a Rochas cologne.

I really want to know who the perfumer is on this one.

I may start a "temptation program" where I just leave that beautiful bottle sitting out where she can grab it!

I have not been hitting any of the vintage lately, but after wearing Bath & Body Works new scent Champion, which is a very weak oakmoss body spray, I was literally CRAVING oakmoss, so I broke out my old spray can of YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme.

    Mmmmmmmmmmm.

The difference is profound. Real oakmoss is just a pleasure.

    That is so sad.

I wonder if that might actually be a deterrent to her using it. Beautiful as it is, that big heavy bottle just feels so butch in my hand.

I was just about to wonder aloud whether we could get our crack investigative team on that task.

I've never heard of her, but she sounds Spanish or Italian, which seems appropriate for the scent.

I just received a can of YSL Rive Gauche (pour femme), I hope to do a side to side between the current and vintage decant I have from the 1980s.

I've thought about buying the pour femme! So very much looking forward to your thoughts. YSL loved that fragrance. There must be something to it.

It would make sense. She did the EDP, and while everybody says there is no connection between the two fragrances, I do get the impression that the main accord of the EDP is in some ways the EDT on super-steroids. When I opened the box of the EDP, I got a whiff that was remarkably like the EDT. But once it's applied - WHOA - the EDP is just massively strong, and any homage or similarity is just overpowered.

Of course, it’s also possible my source was confused, or I was. But I think it was her.

It's a Dunhill for Men day? I got the memo just in time.

    F461831B-4CDE-420D-A155-4750A0E7633E.jpeg

I've only worn this a few times since I got the bottle last year. On initial spray, I got a big blast of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme quickly followed by some Chanel No. 5.

My previous wearing was January 18, 2021.

Pascal Morabito Or Black (vintage mini)

I had jumped on the band wagon and gotten this several months ago when folks were grabbing these, but I had misplaced it. Found it last night.

I gotta be honest: At this early stage from initial application, I like the current version better. Now, the caveat here is that my impression is based solely on a mini, and my batting average with mini's is not very good, so there's that to consider. But if it's not the mini's "fault", and this is the way it smells from an actual bottle, then I won't seek out a vintage bottle and I'll be happy with my current version bottle, but I'll reserve judgement till later in the day. First off, it has a "musty" quality at first application, then an anise note (which is not listed in the pyramid) starts to appear (which I dig), along with some other herbal feel. A bit later (about 20 minutes later), a familiar accord shows up that kind of ruins it for me (I'm not going to mention it, because I don't want to implant my association with it and ruin it for others); however, thankfully, it was short-lived, and a leathery aspect began to emerge. It's starting to improve drastically. Perhaps this is one of those fragrances that has to be gutted-out for a while before it becomes something really nice. I'm reserving judgement.....
