Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

    Good day, everybody -

The weather in Boston is overcast and appropriately chilly for April, and ine, just yesterday I was thinking "The Boston blizzard of 1997 happened in April. I'd better not get used to the temperate weather just yet..."

Continuing my sample dive today in Kerosene Blackmail.

Oh, my goodness, I really love this one. Birch tar/smoke and a sweet, almost-fruity-almost-burnt-sugar undertone on me. Let's see how it dries down, but looks like I've got another add to my Wishlist.

    Make Monday count every moment!

Blackmail fragrance notes: Amber, Vanilla, Dark berries, Sandalwood, Oud.

I sent an Easter basket of woven cotton loop potholders to my family, one set each made with each of five people in mind. The five had name tags attached. I sent four "alternate" sets in case somebody didn't really like theirs-- so they could swap out, and have leftovers to give away.

What happened is, one person doesn't get two sets. You'd think I'd know my family by now. It makes me laugh. They've had a fairly good time picking out, swapping, trying not to look greedy while in fact they've got favorites that "belong" to somebody else and are, in fact, greedy like little piggies.

I'm in Montale's Daydreams today for watching old movies and making more potholders.

Snow in England! I didn't realize that happened in April.

I'm wearing only vintage Ivoire de Balmain talcum powder today, a recent acquisition. I have a mild obsession with vintage bath powders, and it's becoming difficult to find them at less than stratospheric prices.

Yesterday I watched a BBC documentary about Princess Alice, the eccentric Greek royal who was QE II's mother in law. She spent the last years of her life as a nun in service, and I got a kick out of the fact that when she attended Liz's coronation, she wore a bespoke nun's habit made for her by the House of Balmain. I had never before imagined a couturier making a nun's habit.

    Shycat, that's a funny story!
Although I am still not sure how to turn these loops into potholders. I guess they come with instructions!

Ineespenes, happy birthday to your sister! That dinner sounded lovely.

My SOTD was Guerlain Terracotta - it feels perfect for spring. But it wore off by now, so I am on my way to change into Bois d'Iris by Van Cleef & Arpels and take a walk outside.

I don't use potholders, I'm strictly a floursack towel girl all the way. But those Easter colors are perfect. I just wanted to see your handiwork.

    I'm wearing Hypnose today.

We did a massive clear out of the garage last Friday and filled a small dumpster. A couple of loads went to charity and a load went to the hazmat collection center. I sent a picture of the nearly empty garage with the dumpster still in it to my sister and a friend. Both had the same reaction: were we donating stuff to charity or having a garage sale? I think the idea of a dumpster can trigger anxiety in hoarders. I have concluded that they overvalue the stuff. I need to be more sensitive to some people's feelings... Younger people such as my son and his spouse share our enthusiasm for minimalism.
