Default Geranium...I think I like it....

I have a guilty pleasure, I really love the smell of Paul Smith Extreme Man, however it just performs too poorly, both in projection and longevity for me to spend any amount, however small on a full bottle.
I think I asked on here a while back for other, better options that smell the same or very similar but I can't recall getting anywhere with it.
I have not tried Hugo, or Hugo Extreme, but have smelt the original EDT at least on other people and always liked how it smelt...a lot.
I notice that both the Paul Smith and the Hugo share a geranium note?
I am wondering if this is the common denominator in my liking both of the above scents, and if so, then perhaps I should be asking for any other masculine, woody aromatics that also have a notable geranium note?
Perhaps this is the way to get something the same or similar to Paul Smith Man Extreme that I can actually smell for longer than 30 minutes?
What do you reckon, could it be that I am drawn to aromatics with a geranium note?
What other geranium note men's fragrances could you therefore recommend?
Or am I talking complete cobblers....probably....

Equipage Geranium is excellent. I prefer vintage Equipage by a hair though.

I like this too. It has some geranium in it. I would also search out Diptyque Geranium Odorata. It is very geranium-forward. Rose geranium is a plant that has scented leaves that have a rose-like smell. Their essence is used in perfumes and foods. There are other scents of geraniums, but I think rose is the most used. You can find them at garden centers frequently.

For geranium, my favorites are Fredric Malle Rose & Cuir and Hermès Equipage Geranium. Rose & Cuir is a very bright geranium that smells more like rose(hence the name) and Equipage Geranium just smells like a million bucks.

Malle Geranium pour Monsieur has a very minty facet (more than geranium, imo). Nice, even if not my favourite.
Hermes Equipage Geranium is great, although it unsurprisingly becomes a leather fragrance in the drydown and thus looses its freshness, similar to Equipage.

Others you might want to try, with a prominent geranium note:

    Penhaligon's - English Fern
    Houbigant - Fougere Royale
    Creed - Vetiver Geranium
    Chanel - Platinum Egoiste
    Margiela - At the Barber's
    YSL - Rive Gauche
    Franck Boclet - Geranium

My favourites of this bunch being Penhaligon's, Creed and Hermes.

    I'd suggest these -

    Equipage Geranium
    Noir Epices
    Geranium pour Monsieur
    Rose & Cuir
    Fougere Furieuse

However, I'd say Equipage Geranium is probably the 'clear winner' if you take pricing into consideration, though Noir Epices would be up there as well.

The problem you will have is you like the geranium flower but the recommendations above sometimes are based on the leaf. For instance Geranium Pour Monsieur is a minty green fragrance that is very divisive

The other problem you will have is that the geranium flower note just doesnt last, its not meant and it cant be made to.

YSL L’homme Le Parfum is an excellent floral geranium fragrance but again, doesn’t last.

    P.S.

Often this note comes across as sharp, however, if you want a softer focus then Boy Chanel has a nice geranium note. Easy to miss, but once you spot it get it each time.

Geranium it's a kind of green rose - rosy, minty, lemony, with a touch of astringency.
But while the (green) rose has a stemy/herbal/leafy type of green, the green component of geranium veer in the dill direction.

I think that just asking for a geranium aspect was perhaps a little too wide a search criteria?

I suspect a lot of these suggestions, as nice as I'm sure they are, will smell nothing at all like Paul Smith Extreme Man, rather they just happen to share a geranium note of some degree or another. That's not really what I'm after.
I'm after something that will offer the same/similar scent profile and a very similar smell to PSEM.
I wonder if geranium, on it's own is not responsible for the smell I like but rather is simply a common denominator?
After all, a liked/loved scent is just a combination of notes that work together to create a 'sweet spot' of scent that for some reason appeals to our olfactory preferences.
For me, this happens in Paul Smith Extreme Man and I hope it will do so in something else but something that performs a little better?

Ingestion of any part of the plant can cause vomiting, reduced appetite, and depression in dogs, so sloths should probably take care too.

Paco Rabanne Pour Homme (the classic version in the green bottle) has a very prominent geranium note. It comes across as highly soapy and as Emanuel76 mentioned above, it leans slightly rosy.

Equipage Geranium is a very good example, as is the Diptyque mentioned above. I would also suggest the cologne (original) version of Czech & Speake's legendary No. 88 fragrance as well.

Equipage Geranium shares not only a very clear geranium accord with PS Extreme Man, but also rosewood, a clean citrus-aldehydic opening, and a dusting of warm spices in the heart (not as much spice as PSEM, but very noticeable). The geranium in the Hermes scent is rosy, like in the Paul Smith frag. There's a bit of a talc vibe in the base, but it's not a powdery scent. I would certainly suggest that you sample it.

Malle Geranium PM is, IMO, not anything that echoes what you like about Paul Smith Extreme Man. The geranium in it is the absolute, which is very green/minty, and the surrounding notes don't create the same low-key vibe. I like it, but I doubt it would scratch the same itch.

Burberry Brit Summer for Men might be worth sampling for a less expensive alternative, but it's got a more prominent powdery feel.

    Personal Top 10:
Guerlain Vetiver, Paco Rabanne PH, Hermes Equipage, Geoffrey Beene Bowling Green, YSL Live Jazz, Terre d'Hermes, Eau de Rochas Pour Homme, Lubin Itasca, Azzaro PH, Roger & Gallet Open
