    Default Cold, rainy night fragrance

I have several fragrances I think of when as something to wear on a cold fall or winter night, curled up in front of the fire. Cozy. Aramis Tobacco Reserve, Burberry London, and other tobacco scents come to mind.
But what are some fragrances for weathering a cold spring thunderstorm? It is still gets down into the 40's here, despite what the calendar might say. Any suggestions?

I always struggle with what to wear when it’s raining. I’m pretty weather oriented when it comes to fragrances but rain always throws me for a loop. Citrus stuff usually works for me regardless of temperature.
The last time it rained(with cool weather) I wore Cartier Declaration and really liked it.

My rainy day fragrance is M by Puredistance. I hate rain and it makes me really sad inside.

I have a number of fragrances that I've purchased since the fall, but have been looking forward to wearing in cool, rainy springtime weather. Of course I've worn them in that intervening time, but now is really their season to shine. Generally I think fougeres and chypres are good for this kind of weather, but specifically I'd say I'm looking forward to wearing the following to match the cool, wet Seattle spring:

    Creed Royal Mayfair
    Jacomo de Jacomo
    Jean Couturier Coriandre
    Guerlain Vetiver Extreme
    TF Noir Anthracite
Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert
“I have often observed that [scents] cause an alteration in me and work upon my spirits according to their several virtues; which makes me approve of what is said, that the use of incense and perfumes in churches, so ancient and so universally received in all nations and religions, was intended to cheer us, and to rouse and purify the senses, the better to fit us for contemplation” - Montaigne

I have that included with my fall stuff. I'm actually doing a little comparo test of CK One Shock, Samba Skin, Aramis Tobacco Reserve, and Burberry London right now - that is what got me thinking about the question of the thread. I think these work in the rain too, I just wondered if there were more apt options.

I'm assuming for indoors? Not out in the rain, right?

I usually reach for Tobacco Oud Intense, Ombre Nomade.

Lalique Encre Noire and Caron L'Anarchiste come to my mind almost immediately when it comes to cold and rainy. Narciso Rodriguez For Him also might fit the bill.

I am not sure why, but I usually reach for AdP Ginepro di Sardegna when it rains. I realize as a blu mediterraneo line fragrance it‘s supposed to evoke summery feelings but I find the juniper and cypress evoke a cold air feeling that is fitting for rainy days. Also it last quite a bit on my skin.

NARCISCO RODRIGUEZ FOR HIM has long been considered by many to "the" rainy day fragrance.

For reasons not clear to me now, I decided to try it and wish I hadn't.

Maybe if LA had more rainy days, I'd understand it better. Kind of a gloomy, sedate frag.
Between Covid and retirement I don't get out much. But when I do, I smell real good.

Several folks have suggested it, I think I will try to track down a sample. We have plenty of rain in Northwest Arkansas.

Hmmmm, probably Bois d'Ascese, Epice Marine, Antaeus, Moschino pour Homme, or if something warmer then Ambre Sultan or Chergui.

    Love reading PG Wodehouse btw.

P.S. Before I forget - Bulgari Black before anything else.

One more that just occurred to me: L'eau d'Issey Pour Homme Intense. The amber-woody drydown works really well on a cold, rainy night.

Yes, I would def suggest sampling. It's quite unique, and if you like it, would appreciate your sharing if and why it's a good rainy day scent.

I don't hate it per se and it's not gross or offensive...it is just is sort of hard for me to categorize mentally: i.e. Not sure why I would want to smell like this.

Perhaps it's a rainy day scent because it's just a tad serious and good for hanging around looking out the window. It is perhaps a bit "moody."

I would never envision wearing out on town or in an office.

For sure. I have a sample on the way. It's funny; earlier I had been searching Vanaris' blog for "melancholy", which brought up his review of Dunhill Blend 30, a discontinued fragrance I'd never heard of. It sounds like something I'd really like, and there were some very affordable vintage samples available, so SCORE. Then, after seeing NRFH suggested, I saw "melancholy" repeated frequently among the reviews. Again, another fragrance I'd never heard of which sounds like something I'd like, with affordable samples. It's been a good day.
