    Default Fragrance recommendation for meditation

I want to hear your ideas on what fragrance to wear when practicing meditation. I saw a couple of youtubevideos and guys where recommending incensey concoctions and i loved the bois d'encens by armani. But its running low and i need to switch to a new one.

Generally when im chilling alone at home i love gourmand frags, but since theyre so sweet (vanillic-tonka-ish etc) i feel like they would be overbearing if used on meditation and wont allow you to focus

Id love to hear your thoughts. Please be creative and help me achieve my zen

l think if gourmands are what help you to chill, then they'll probably work for you.

l agree that incense-based fragrances are a great option. l particularly enjoy Nag Champa by Ava Luxe for this purpose.

l also find sandalwood very soothing & grounding. Samsara is my all-time most worn fragrance for this very reason.

For me, Bamboo Harmony by Kilian is a very zen fragrance. Or a bit different and much cheaper, Vintage Green by Banana Republic. Both are soft, fresh, tea based fragrance that I would find perfect for relaxing (or meditating, although I don’t do that so I can’t comment).

Hinoki may be similar to Kyoto (which I need to try) but is about the most calming scent I've ever come across.

This is as funny as it is true; in my experience, oud has become the single olfactory facilitator of the "meditative state of mind."

I’m a big proponent of olfactory-induced meditation (see my signature). The most zen option would be to opt for some high end Japanese aloeswood (oud) incense. Baieido Tobiume would be a good option. The closest thing you’ll find to that is probably indie oud - Agar Aura Neriko is both extremely close to a Japanese incense vibe, and also extremely expensive. So that might not actually be an option, but in theory anyway... Most oud/incense frags to me tend to be the heavier middle Eastern or Eastern European kinda vibe, but CdG Kyoto is a good option.

More generally I’d say something light but compelling, that you won’t smell all the time, but that gives you nice whiffs often enough to “reenergize” your spirit. Maybe Bvlgari The Vert or another unique EdC.
“I have often observed that [scents] cause an alteration in me and work upon my spirits according to their several virtues; which makes me approve of what is said, that the use of incense and perfumes in churches, so ancient and so universally received in all nations and religions, was intended to cheer us, and to rouse and purify the senses, the better to fit us for contemplation” - Montaigne

Definitely pure oud oil, applied lightly. Not an oud fragrance, per se. Just some nice oil. Not the cheapest option, though.

For me it would be this kind of fragrances (Eau de Cartier i.e.).
A meditative gourmand to me would be Ambre Narguilé.

Diptyque Tam Dao and CDG Zagorsk. my top meditative scents.
(I would add Etro Mess de Minuit, but its meditative qualities are different from what you may be looking for)

Though with the disclaimer that this is not any advice, just a personal recommendation, did notice to meditate as well as to relax better with cooling, cold (er), fresher almost neutral and unassuming minimalist scents though some incense might be still there, if not the extremely heavy, animalic, smoky, overpowering type- would rate especially the light airy Kenzo PH or the clean powdery Very Valentino PH as befitting this most from the currently owned lineup.
Much more so than with the gourmand, Oriental, sensually warm, overly spicy, powerhouse/beast mode performance, boozy, leathery etc. ones.

I’m curious how many people here are trained in meditation? Or rather I should ask “what constitutes meditation” in your opinions?

The reason I ask because meditation is meant to be single pointed focus on a particular object in some methods while others would say meditation is the process is simply sitting. These two key distinctions are important to note because most of the spray perfumes being recommended here would be horrendous for meditation. The reason why incense works so well for meditation is how you’re able to notice the scent and maintain single minded focus on usually a mantra or breath.

I wouldn’t recommend any actual perfume for meditation. Pure Oud oils and sandalwood work beautifully because it allows you to focus on one particular scent without having to think about all the different levels of materials interacting with the drydown and so forth.

I think in theory it’s nice to say “this is meditative” but unless you have an actual meditation practice I couldn’t imagine recommending a scent outside of incense (which is an offering not for personal enjoyment) or an Oud/sandalwood oil (single pointed focus).

If you’re interested in pure Oud shoot me a dm and I recommend you some oils.

There are many ways to meditate. If you want you can even focus on your perfume to do it. It’s like many roads arriving (or trying to) at a common place. Actually you can even change the “place”. And like you, I find scentless easier.
