I have survived, mostly intact but with a considerably greater number of holes punched in me, courtesy of a 4-day stay in the intensive care unit. Having counted my chickens before they hatched, I regret saying I'd be back within 36 hours of surgery. Many thanks to everyone for your well wishes and your PMs, and I'm sorry to have caused any concern.

The surgery itself went perfectly, but afterwards there was alarm about my extremely low blood pressure so they kept me in the ICU through Thursday, when they finally got it raised to 95/50. (Note to Shycat: I also had a horrendous anesthesia experience, with something called Precedex, that I should maybe PM you about; I was told it would leave me conscious and communicative, but it rendered me unable to speak and with hideous psychotropic delusions. Not fun.)

But I'm so happy to return to the good news of Quarry's trifecta! Attagirl, Q.

And I'm happy about the Friday Sync: it's one of my favorites, because I get to trot out my favorite of Turin's Deplorables. It's a great testament to clever writing when you can even enjoy a bashing given to one of your Treasured Babies, just because it's done so wittily.

    Luca's description of this: 'Orrible.

    My description of it: 'Eaven.

Cheese and tripe! Cook.bot! What the Hellman's?! Getting skewered and rendered peachless? Good cod, that's bananas. I know they won't let you scramble out of bed until your BP hits a certain number. Are you feeling all ripe now?

I went through the whole Guide, and wow, wholeheartedly I disagree about the one-starred Mona di Orio Nuit Noire:
A hilariously bad fragrance, in which a very powerful sweet air-freshener note is overlaid with a loud civet fart, adding up to a vividly cheap and unpleasant accord. LT

I declare NN's opening a full-on pleasure. The bright orange may be even larger than that of Boucheron. I want to suspend that first minute. It's all glory. The animalic-fecal-whatever-accord gives me the blisses. The only negative is that it all recoils into a skin scent in just minutes. It's still beautiful, but one would need to over-apply get wiffs throughout the day. I'm still nursing samples because this is so pricey. But one day, maybe ...

Okay. This morning my mind was blown. My brain did not know how to file what I saw. Let me remind you, we live on a busy, 4-lane highway frequented by heavy trucks all the work-long day. What I saw was an object I'd never seen before anywhere, on tv or otherwise, an object which could be dangerous under the best of circumstances, and a foolish young man riding it -- a 36" or 42" (new style big wheel) unicycle! Yep, he was just pedaling and wobbling up the road inches away from 55 mph traffic toward the freeway that lies a half mile north of us. I turned to Mr. Q and said, "I'm not dreaming, right?"

Hello, everyone and hurrah to see you back (albeit not 100% yet), dear Cook.bot!!

Well, I *almost* joined the Hiris crowd today, but since I've worn that recently and it *snowed* a little yesterday, I decided to go for a slightly warmer one-star wonder from The Guide: Profumum Fiore d'Ambra, which I happen to really enjoy. LT describes it as "Profumum does Ambre Sultan. Beware." (Note: I really love Ambre Sultan, and disagree that Fiore d'Ambre is an attempted knock-off. I find FdA a more basic amber, with a bit of incense going on, but nothing as gourmand as AS leans).

Fiore d'Ambra fragrance notes: Amber, Opium, Spices.

Wending toward wine o'clock, which frankly can't come soon enough for me this week.

    Fantastic Friday, all!

Cook.bot, I'm so happy you're back. I hope you feel better soon!

I threw myself wholeheartedly into today's synch and I am wearing Curious from a bottle a friend gave me. The Guide says, "It smells of every crass fruity-floral of the last five years blended together...It lasts forever, radiates like nuclear waste, and perfectly expresses the crude charms of its star." The 10-year-old inside me likes it.

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. On a serious note, I'm the mother of a young man and I cringe at the idea of such risky behavior. My son and his spouse recently purchased motorized scooters and they say they primarily use them on bike paths. I choose to believe them...
