Default Your top 5 "must haves"

Give me your top 5 must have fragrances for any man's collection.

I'm slowly building up my collection and want to know what direction I should be looking. I have no preference for what family it may be in, just that it lean masculine and be amazing

    To cover the good years:

    Chanel Pour Monsieur (1955)
    Givenchy Gentleman (1974)
    Polo (1978)
    Antaeus (1981)
    Bel Ami (1986)

I have two or more backups of these. I felt like I must have them! And I wanted to have my perfume and use it, too.

These five also work for, "If you could only have one fragrance, what would it be?" Which is key. If I get stuck on a desert island with only one perfume on five separate occasions, I would hopefully be able to work through this list.

Did you mean top 50? haha
If i had to start from scratch and be allowed to get only 10 fragrances for the rest of my life (yes, 10, cannot do less), I would target one fragrance per 'category' (except for Lancetti and Villoresi which are somewhat redundant, but too good to exclude one or the other). Here you are:

    Eau D'Hermes - Hermès
    Sandalo - Lorenzo Villoresi
    Monsieur - Lancetti
    Mouchoir de Monsieur - Guerlain
#1 Nota di Viaggio - Meo Fusciuni
    L'Oudh - Andy Tauer
    Incense Extreme - Andy Tauer
Essence No.8 Santal - Elie Saab
Cuir Sacre - Atelier des Ors
33 - Chris Rusak (and a plethora of other vetiver fragrances that I would hide in my backpack)

I'd have to have these -- I'd just swap Bergamatto for Santal Noble

Thanks. I first tried it in the summer of 2008, and it immediately felt like "me" in a way few scents have over the years. It is truly a complex, layered fragrance that never gets boring to me. It was first suggested to me here on BN when I was a newcomer looking for things that might evoke my childhood summers in Nebraska and Kansas. It does indeed sometimes remind me of putting up hay, and other times the soapy aspects come through. One day it's just so much lavender, and another the smoky vetiver takes hold. It's truly a gem.

    Current Favorites:
Prada Luna Rossa Carbon, Chanel Platinum Egoiste, Versace The Dreamer, Caron Pour un Homme Sport, Guerlain Vetiver, Missoni Parfum Pour Homme
