Default A small love note to Basenotes

I was just reading up on Varanis Ridani's thread and it made me all warm and fuzzy inside, so I decided to pen a little love note to Basenotes (I might also have ingested a tiny bit of E this evening (there's a social distancing safe 2 person mini rave going on in my kitchen, I just turned 40, so I can do those things, as I am now an adult, of sorts), so bear with me).

I really love Basenotes! I love parfum, but I also love the parfum-loving nerds and nerdettes and nerdibblings (sp on this one?) on it. I just feel like it's a gathering of people who differ quite a few standard deviations form the mean, same as me, and in the same direction as me (does this make any sense? I'm on E, I don't have to make sense). People around here on the whole are nice to each other, intelligent, helpful, eloquent, and a bit weird, which is great! I learn so much from you about fragrances, but I also just enjoy the specific way people write, being able to predict who is going to pop up in what thread to say something constructive, or funny, or insightful, or all of the above.

So thanks, to everyone here for being lovely!

I didn’t know we were so close in age - I’ll be 40 in October. I consider 40 young in perfume years - there’s still so many classics I hope to grow into!

Haha! Oh, yellowtone, I wish I could be there to see the look on your face tomorrow morning when you wake up and realize you confessed all this here tonight.

Happy birthday and many happy returns, you crazy kid!

You're both just puppies! So many perfumes (and so much E) for both of you to explore.

    Wonderful thoughts!

Perfume people are special! They're a representatve slice of the many differences in humanity in many ways, but they are all "different from the rest, together" in others. Basenotes is a very special group within that. I know how you feel! In vino, veritas!

Love to yellowtone, love to BN, love to good psychoactives.

yellowtone is a good egg and I should hunt down the sample of Tsarina she sent me (plus a bunch of others) in the super slick James Bond style, internationally travelling, cassette case. I don’t know if that was originally ClarieV’s idea, or Ebenas’, nor do I know if I use apostrophes correctly, but it was a heck of a fun parcel to receive. You go, yellowtone!

    You’re a good egg.

Happy birthday, all the best to you yellowtone! You certainly sound a little like E , and the good thing is, that doesn’t make anything less true - just less... held back, maybe. We live in times where every word is, often overly and very subjectively, scrutinized, so I had a big smile on my face reading your heartfelt post. 4 years to go here until the 40s fun starts...

Hope you‘ve had a great night together (and a wonderful perfume on)!

Happy Belated 40th, yellowtone, and thanks for the love letter. We could all use a bit more of it.

By the way, you’re going to love your forties! (I’m 41.) Ever since I turned 40, I’ve had a little mantra in my mind that helps me avoid chaos and drama: “I’m a grown-a** woman, and I don’t need to ... if I don’t want to.” It’s very freeing. I wish you freedom and love this year.
