I missed your reply til just now, Earlyn. Thanks for sharing about your collection.

I've never had one of those cologne minis in the clear glass bottle. I might try to find one of those.

I would buy it because I really like this original.
Same experience for me. Some total duds, though they didn't seem tampered with, just exhausted.

EDIT: I just had to go look up the current product and see if the notes list had been adjusted at all and it still reads pretty much the same. Since I haven’t tried any Lauren produced in the last 3 decades or so I might have to go smell it.
I'd be curious to smell what the current is like too, though I have just about zero hope for it. The last version I tried, maybe 15 years or so ago, was dreadful.

Such a shame. I really miss this scent. In fact I might miss it the most of all the lost and maimed perfumes.

At least I’m thinking maybe the new stuff could be layered with the vintage to good effect, supporting the missing top notes of the vintage if the new isn’t too far off the mark, and hopefully making way for vintage base without overpowering it with base substitutes. That’s a lot of wishing so I guess I just need to try it when I am at the counter again.

I guess I'm out for this weekend. Out of 130 bottles, I don't have a single one that has a white bottle or has a name containing "white", "blanche", or "blanco".

Scratch that! I overlooked the most obvious one: Ivoire de Balmain. I own both vintage and modern versions, and I might wear them both, since I haven't tried the new one for years because I hated it so much when I bought it. Maybe time to give it another chance, although my expectations are at zero.

I thought I would have something with white in the name, but I don't. A sample of Le Sillage Blanc turned out to be empty, and that one, despite its name, smells decidedly green so it would feel like cheating anyway. I'll go a different route and turn to the myriad of white flowers in my collection. Ever since last year I am drawn to lily scents and have taken to layering Lys Mediterranee by Frederic Malle (fresh, naturalistic white lilies by the sea side) over Lys 41 by Le Labo (thick, creamy white lilies). This is an excellent and very expensive habit that has even gotten me compliments from total strangers at a 10 foot distance, so it's probably also way too much.

Now I'm wearing Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic - the box of all AA line fragrances is white, so it kind of fits.

When I come home I'll see if I have something more fitting

I may join this weekend sync as I have a bottle of Narciso EDP in the white cube bottle, and it’s been a while since I’ve worn it. I really love that musky, woody, creamy gardenia.

    Wingie, we're twins today.

Used the last of my Narciso sample today. I really like it but don't think I'd spring for a FB.

I love the white Narciso cube, too! But I only own the black EDT and the creamy Poudree cubes so they don't fit this time

I don't have many "white" scents in my wardrobe unless I start going with things that are packed into white boxes or have some white on their bottles.
(I do have several Blanches among my samples, but I didn't feel like wearing them).
This evening I chose JPG's Classique Eau Fraiche - I have it in Andre's edition stripey bottle with white and pink stripes, so it almost fits. It's a gourmand and summery take on a citrusy musky floral. They say it has sorbet notes and I agree, it kinda smells like it, just in a perfumey way.
I might choose Guerlain's Shalimar Souffle de Lumiere tomorrow - it's a summery citrusy and musky white floral in a white bottle.

Well now I have to wear it Laura, since you're wearing it too!

I actually did not love Narciso EDP either when I first got a sample of it, but I thought it was nice. Then a Canadian eBayer was selling decants for cheap so I bought one on a whim, and was won over very quickly. Strange how we develop relationships with perfumes sometimes!

Late start to the weekend. For some reason my BN account got reset and I couldn’t get password working today but I’m back!

Anyway, I’m doing some vintage nips this weekend. I really like vintage nips because in my experience, as long as the juice isn’t amber in color, the fragrances are well preserved -

    06CAAE20-119B-438B-B57A-8C57D82E3FEA.jpg

    Starting with -
    White Mist by Countess Maritza
Getting a luscious dewy Jasmine and mature Gardenia underneath a more lacey sweet floral layer. Overall impression is a fleshy, fresh and frothy white mist, as the name implies, and not a suffocating cumulonimbus. Also there is a bit of thick green leaf and citrus oil sneaking in, as well as a yummy edible carnation providing contrast and balance to the florals. Seductive and prim at the same time. There is a tropical lactonic note like heavy unsweetened cream and maybe some coconut or ylang that comes in after about 20 minutes. It isn’t gourmand but smell delicious. In dry down this is becoming a skin scent. As the florals and tropical notes fall away the cream remains along with a dry, delicate sandalwood and a barely sweet resin. Mission accomplished on this one. I enjoyed how the louder and quiet notes, and the sweet/spicy/dry elements were held aloft in balance throughout.

Countess Maritza Perfumes are available on eBay, etc. but it is challenging to find good looking juice. House Maritza wasn’t as high-end or as long-lived in comparison to many other MCM houses and their fragrances are likely derivative, but I think they are quality fragrances are worth some appreciation. Another one I like is Silent Night.

    Tomorrow-
White Lilac by Mary Chess - tried and liked this before
White Satin by Bourjois - haven’t tried this one yet. Also Red, Black, and Pink Satin in the line.

I see the Narcisso crowd is out in force. I have never warmed up to the line, which is unfortunate because I admire everything about it: the concept, the branding, the bottles; it's just that the scents don't work for me.

Yep, you break off the ends and the fragrance runs out. They are tiny. Perhaps .5 ml, but enough in vintages to get a decent wear. I’m wearing White Satin by Angelique (correction to my previous post attributing this to Bourjois). That little sample has been going for hours now, from bashful, soft floral to a natural musky vanilla dry down. Smells quality but a little flat when compared to yesterday’s White Mist.

If it is of interest, Angelique was run by a couple of bold businessmen with a penchant for publicity stunts. In fact, White Satin made its debut via airplane over Los Angeles. The company’s story is pretty entertaining. Here’s a link shared to me I believe by grayspoole at some point past-

I have a mini blue bottle of Niki de Saint Phalle, and for name I have L’Heure Bleue extrait and Bluegrass parfum.

I think Bluegrass might win because it has blue in the title and a nice blue glass top on the bottle.

    My choices for weekend:
    Lolita Lempicka Mon Premier
    Citrus Noir by Molinard
Cheap and Chic I Love Love by Moschino (blue with white and orange details)
Sunrise in Cadaques by Salvador Dali (blue and red just like rising/setting sun)
Black Opium Intense by YSL (mini)
    LouLou by Cacharel (mini)
Shalimar Souffle Intense by Guerlain (probably not unless weather cools)

Oh wow that's quite the list! Which one is it going to be?

I don't dig blue scents either and I have 0 blue bottles in my collection, but I do have one with blue in the name: Nuée Bleue, by Maison Violet. This is a decidedly non-blue scent though; a tender, yellow tinged spring green if ever there was one. It's a modern orris citrus scent that manages to be crisp, cool, fresh and powdery in the most poetic way and wearing it makes me feel invigorated yet calm and collected. It's also one of the only clean scents that I ever have fallen in love with. I bought a full bottle of it, which rarely happens these days and I have made quite a dent in it since.

Same here, but the only blue bottles of fragrance I own are all too heavy to wear in July heat: Declaration Essence, Niki de Saint Phalle, Lolita Lempicka and Evening in Paris parfum.

So I just went with bath powder only, from two separate bottles that are both vintage Bourjois Evening in Paris:

    EveningInParis.Talc.2BottleStyles.jpg

I'm not that crazy about the flower-heavy scent of Evening in Paris, but I adored all their cobalt bottles. The prettiest one I ever owned was a bottle of sachet, which I presume was meant for scenting drawers of clothing and linens. Its amazing feature was a solid glass cap that was engraved not only with flowers on top, but also engraved with threading on its base so it screwed into the neck of the bottle. I wound up giving it away to someone who loves cobalt bottles even more than I do.

The only blue bottle frag I own is Kilian Moonight in Heaven (and it’s actually just a decant) so I may wear some tomorrow when I return home from having spent a couple days outside the city, as I don’t have it with me now.
