    Default Off-the-radar spicy roses

Do you have a favorite spicy rose that is a little off-the-radar? Tell me about it!

I am on the hunt for a good & uncommon spicy rose.

(No need to mention Rose 31, I've tried and enjoyed it already)

I recently bought this particular perfume. Perfect for summer. It doesn't have the luscious floral sweetness that I don't like in perfumery.

Spot on! ManRose and Declaration d'un Soir are the kind of rose I can/want to wear. Whereas a more luscious one like Amouage Lyric Man is definitely not my cup of tea.

I recently tried Radical Rose by Matiere Premiere and was quite impressed. AFAIK they grow their own roses – Rose Centifolia Absolute (France), extracted from roses organically grown by Matiere Premiere.

Caron Parfum Sacre and Gres Cabaret. Parfum Sacre is a resinous rose, Cabaret more of a woody rose, both dusted with spice.

I have not tried the current formulation of Parfum Sacre so can’t tell you how it is, but there are vintage bottles, both the peppercorn bottle (with the white label, not purple) and the shorter, rounded gold flacon floating around on eBay. Worth seeking out.

MFK Lumiere Noire is one that is no longer in production, but it was quite something.

Another one is Declaration d'un Soir as already mentioned. It has quite a synthetic dose of cashmeran in the far dry-down though.

Rose Poivrée (vintage) ? I just got a decant of this, it's basically cumin + rose.

I've been avoiding Areej from the price point and difficulty of obtaining samples/bottles, but this sounds absolutely delicious. Maybe one day the clouds will part and drop a sample on my head

Thanks hednic! Parfums de Rosine was overwhelming me with the sheer number of rose options, so it is good to have a recommendation from that house!

You know it's time I revisited Etro, added to the list! I have a nice vintage bottle of Messe de Minuit that I've always admired from my incense-junkie days, but I haven't adequately looked into their other scents.

I am definitely intrigued by this house, I just found it doing research - gonna see where they are carried in the USA for sampling if possible

The plum note makes me hesitate but there's some good reviews that say it just works so I might give it a try

Thank you for this guidance! This one came up in my research and I didn't know which version to seek out

I like the original Declaration, didn't know there was a rose variant out there!

Does Toy Boy lean unisex enough for a woman to wear? I can pull off a lot of men's stuff as long as it doesn't read "classically" masculine

Ugh, I want to try this one soooo badly, the reviews are amazing, but it is impossible to find

I was looking into Lyric by Amouage but gonna compare the two now. I own a Byredo, probably owe it to them to test their take on roses

I had this sample a looooong time ago before I liked rose, purely for the cumin note which I dig a lot. I need to find another sample and revisit

Thanks all for the great ideas, I will keep checking this thread and share impressions once sampling gets underway in earnest <3

    Many great recommendations, also adding:
most of the Ungaro III range by Ungaro and perhaps even the discontinued Ungaro II, Esencia Loewe, Bronnley Gentleman's Cologne, Yves Rocher Secrets d'Essences Rose & Oud, Louis Varel Extreme Mukhallat, Furyo by Bogart, Habit Rouge EDP and Songe d'un Bois d'Ete by Guerlain - most of whom are quite unisex too

    Hermes - Rose Ikebana

Maybe not under the radar, but I don't think people usually classify it as spicy. To me, the more I wear it the more I notice a lot of spice (especially pepper!) just under the juicy fresh grapefuit-y rose.

Parfums Sacre is a good rec from Tdem. Don't get the tall, rectangular bottles, but any vintage should be fine.

Crabtree & Evelyn's Femme de Force is a sheer, spicy rose like Rose 31 and Paestum Rose used to be. I believe that's really off the radar since C&E is online-only these days.

    Also great:

Hermann a mes Cotes by Etat Libre d'Orange
    Voile d'Encens by Motif Olfactif
    Smolderose by January Scent Project

    Worth a sniff:
Rossy de Palma by Etat Libre d'Orange
    L'Homme Ultime by YSL
    Encens Jinhae by Atelier Cologne
    Declaration d'Un Soir by Cartier
    AA Ginger Piccante by Guerlain
