First day of the heat spell resulted in temperatures of 37C, I didn't think it would jump that high. I wonder how terrible it is across the pond.

Good morning all !. Just got caught in something resembling a monsoon on the way home from the barbers today. Our gardens need the rain so no complaints.

    Happy Birthday Bavard

ComDiva please pass on my congratulations

Thank you, Jon, and everyone on the female fragrance discussion scent of the day thread! I have synchronized in Bal a Versailles to celebrate. I haven't come across another perfume quite so loaded with vintage-smelling ingredients as Bal a Versailles. My recently-acquired late 70s-ish No. 5 perfume has some of this rich, civety, cola-type roundness in the opening as well - just not as much as Bal a Versailles.

    Bavard, I hope you're having a tail-wagging great birthday.

My long-time friends visited yesterday. It's the first time we've gotten together in more than a year. This couple met here at our home 50 years ago when we were all 16yo. Nancy's been dealing with brain cancer for 15 years and now needs her husband to talk her through simple maneuvers like sitting and standing. When I kissed her good-bye, she said, "You smell good." Now I'll associate JM Pomegranate Noir with that moment. I'm wearing it again today.

The very best birthday wishes to the ever-gentlemanly Bavard!

I think I'll join in this improv sync of Bal à Versailles. Why not? I have no one to please but myself today and the humidity has taken a brief dip.

Not the parfum, though; that might be further than I care to go. The eau de cologne will suffice.

Quarry, question for you: I was reading the thread about a BN meetup in New Orleans years back, and saw mentions of a perfume shop assistant named Barbara Herman. Were you all aware at the time that she was the author of "Scent and Subversion", or did that come later?

She's apparently now the owner and creative director of Eris Perfumes. There's a new article about her here:

Oh! Thank you, C.bot. I hadn't made the connection. Will investigate Eris with a new perspective.

Hello, everyone, thanks for the support/good wishes for my youngest's college graduation, and happiest of birthdays to Bavard!!

Tonight I will probably join the Bal a Versailles train, but for now I went with Guerlain Bois d'Armenie - Which I think is completely complementary to BaV.

    Thrilling Thursday, everyone!

Bois d'Arménie fragrance notes: Frankincense, Iris, Pink pepper, Gaiac wood, Benzoin, Coriander, Copahu balm, Patchouli, White musks.

I'm wearing Diptyque Florabellio today. I'm safely back home. When we pulled into town yesterday at noon, I spotted a fog bank hovering over the coast. This morning, it rained lightly and the temperatures are in the 80s, mild for summer. So far, our area is escaping the horrible heat wave.

ComDiva, having an offspring graduate from college is a VERY big deal. Congratulations!

    Happy birthday, Bavard!

Q, have you lived in that house for your entire life?

I thought only titled characters in British novels did that.
