Default Flashback: it's 1985. What's your designer top ten?

I turned 18 that year, so for me it's memory lane as it will be for some of us.

For our members who came of age after this era, you'll be limited to what was available.

    This could be interesting...
    Current rotation:
    Polo Green(Warner version)
    Calvin(original)
Dakar(prefer it to current drakkar noir)
    LPDO Vanille Persuasive

This is Basenotes, 1980 and 1970s fragrances make up the bulk of the discussion. Azzaro Pour Homme is the most worn fragrance here for months on end.

Personally I prefer reconstructed modern interpretations of the classics, like Tom Ford’s Beau de Jour. Maybe thats why Chanel Antaeus stands out for me since it has been reformed.

Unfortunately for me, modern releases replicating classic styles tend to sell for premium prices.

Everything being vintage formulation adds another layer to this

My list would look something like this:

    Eau Sauvage
    Sagamore
    Drakkar Noir
    Old Spice
    Brut
    Antaeus
    Pour Monsieur
    Kouros
    Azzaro Pour Homme
    Polo

(if Old Spice and Brut are disallowed I’ll swap in YSL Pour Homme and the Haute Concentration)
    Currently enjoying

Bois du Portugal / Aventus / Pour Monsieur / Boss Number One (current)
Sagamore (vintage) / Bowling Green / Bright Neroli / Cool Water (vintage)
Antaeus / Allure Homme / Jazz Club / Old Spice / Jubi XXV / Kouros

Currently wearing: Bois du Portugal by Creed

    Wow...going from memory...only remember these

    LAUREN POLO
    BEENE GRAY FLANNEL
    PIERRE CARDIN
    LAGERFELD CLASSIC

Wore Pierre Cardin exclusively for about 10 years. Not much else existed back then. VETIVER, HABIT ROUGE, EAU SAUVAGE may well have been available, but never showed up in the Macy's level type department stores I frequented. Plus in my Detroit youth, Guerlain and Dior would have probably seemed to bougie...

Can't much bring myself to wear any of these now.
I don't get out much. But when I do, I smell real good.

If I am forced to time travel back in time, I'll probably wear Pour un Homme de Caron, just like Hedi Slimane did in his younger years.

Pulled right from my most worn.

It would have been Chanel Antaeus or possibly the newly released Guerlain Derby at the time.

I turned 9 that year and probably only knew about the existence of deodorants and after shaves (which my dad never wore by the way). Even later on, I used YSL Jazz as a deodorant because I had no idea what an "eau de toilette" was supposed to mean.

But taking an imaginary trip back to 1985 as my 45-year-old current self, I guess my top pick would be Monsieur Carven.
    Spray less, love more.

Although born by then, was still too young to wear fragrances, however among the pre 1985 or 1985 fragrances did enjoy or frequently wear much later, still have to include and consider:
Antaeus, One Man Show and also Bogart Signature by the same house, Tuscany, Azzaro PH, Santos, Paco Rabanne PH, pre Noir plain simple Drakkar and also its more famous flanker Drakkar by Guy Laroche, Worth PH, Chanel pour Monsieur, YSL PH and/or PH Concentree, Floris Elite.

I think that was it. I have loved cologne since I was 15. The next few months I would add Kouros and Tuscany.

I was a kiddo back then, but I had a stash. I assumed everyone did. Chaps. Stetson. Brut. Old Spice. I wish I had Polo - I was priced out back then. I didn't even know about Calvin Klein, Chanel, or Christian Dior.
